and his blaming Gitmo?

For many years, it’s been clear that the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay does not advance our national security -- it undermines it.
It’s counterproductive to our fight against terrorists, because they use it as propaganda in their efforts to recruit.

Remarks by the President on Plan to Close the Prison at Guantanamo Bay

When these statements were made were they not recruiting statements?
According to this Harvard study the answer is YES!
According to Radha Iyengar, a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in health policy research at Harvard and Jonathan Monten of the Belfer Center at the university's Kennedy School of Government.

Senator Obama(D) .."troops are air-raiding villages and killing civilians,"
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid(D) "War is lost",
U.S. Rep. Murtha(D) "Our troops killed innocent civilians in cold blood,”
Senator Kerry(D) "American soldiers going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children."

Now before all you Obamatrons complain.."out of context"... NOT an issue as it doesn't make any difference to the recruiters! They used these statements to recruit!

STUDY ABSTRACT
Are insurgents affected by information on US casualty sensitivity? Using data on attacks and variation in access to international news across Iraqi provinces, we identify an “emboldenment” effect by comparing the rate of insurgent attacks in areas with higher and lower access to information about U.S news after public statements critical of the war.
We find in periods after a spike in war-critical statements, insurgent attacks increases by 5-10 percent.
The results suggest that insurgent groups respond rationally to expected probability of US withdrawal.

So what is the difference between Obama telling the enemy "military air-raiding villages, killing civilians"
in helping recruit terrorists and Gitmo?
NOT ONE difference!

I think they use the fact that we were killing civilian in air raids to recruit with, not because some politician used that phrase in a sentence while campaigning. Same thing with the situation at the Prison. People are being kept there with no charges, no trials or tribunals, just indefinite detention.

Doesn't make ANY difference whether campaigning or not. Stupidity was shown BLAMING US military calling them killers...etc... that shows the mentality of the same people now claiming Gitmo is a recruiting tool!
Now as far as kept there with no charges, etc. response. NO NEED to have charges. This is WAR TIME and those that were detained in Gitmo were
in combat situations or plotting deaths of Americans.
But regardless the same "perception" i.e. Gitmo bad or calling our troops killers is what the terrorists see. Quibbling about a place where 3 square meals,
religious observations, 300 tv channels, soccer fields health care provided my goodness this is a recruiting tool to get people TO GITMO!

If this is war time then why hasn't Congress declared war. Doesn't that make them prisoners of war with rights under the Geneva Convention? As you've been told over and over, then candidate Obama was lamenting the fact that we did not put enough resources into Afghanistan and we were bombing them and that mean killing civilians too.

"Obama was lamenting the fact that we did not put enough resources into Afghanistan and we were bombing them and that mean killing civilians too."
Context means NOTHING any more then Obama's "Lamenting"... The comment is taken to be a criticism of the military by everyone and more so the bad guys!
YOU don't make dumb ass statements like.
Just Obama forgets his statements which he today says: “We know senators say stuff all the time,” Obama said Wednesday (2/24/16) in comments from the Oval Office.
Obama said for political gain and it was pure traitorous.
Now as far as Gitmo...

The Bush administration asserted that detainees were not entitled to any of the protections of the Geneva Conventions.
Ensuing U.S. Supreme Court decisions since 2004 have determined otherwise and that the courts have jurisdiction: it ruled in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld on 29 June 2006, that detainees were entitled to the minimal protections listed under Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions.[6]
Following this, on 7 July 2006, the Department of Defense issued an internal memo stating that detainees would, in the future, be entitled to protection under Common Article 3.[7][8]

The government of Afghanistan was complaining loudly about the apparent indiscriminate bombing that kill hundreds of its civilians, the facts were published in the NY Times. But a Senator can't talk about it right?

Then quit calling it a war time situation. It was an extra-ordinary situation where torture of prisoners was allowed. Your not suppose to torture prisoner of war so they're not really prisoners of war, nudge nudge, wink wink.....

What torture? Any fingernails pulled out? Any castrations? Any beheadings?
Water boarding? Torture?

He added, "The Geneva Convention .. .was analyzed by the lawyers in place, and they came to the conclusion, especially about waterboarding, because that's the primary thing, that, since we do it to our own soldiers, by the hundreds, incidentally, and it doesn't hurt them, and they — and it makes them tougher, and it doesn't hurt anybody — Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gained weight after he was waterboarded — we decided that, since we do that to our own soldiers in training... we‘re not going to consider that torture. "
Still, Hunter is correct that the U.S. military has waterboarded servicemen as part of survival training. And so we rule his statement Mostly True.
Duncan Hunter says we have waterboarded our own military as part of training exercises
