Atheism has consequences. Unless the adult was raised in a Christian home with taught goals and observances, atheism provides a lifelong sense of pointlessness, separation, and chaos. It goes perfect with socialism, and could result in isolationism that brings a society into becoming a vassal nation. That is my opinion.
Even so, believers might consider asking our good Lord to have mercy on those who fail to believe, because oftentimes, we as Christians may have a flaw that becomes exaggerated to the poor in spirit, and the book of Jude cautions us all:
Jude 1: 22 And have mercy on those who doubt.
I see no evidence that atheism does any of those things.
That's because things of the soul remain unseen to the spiritually blind. It's okay, since seeing spiritual strength is not on the atheist agenda, and it is brutal interference in the material world we can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. Christ didn't invite Thomas the doubter into his discipleship because he was a spiritual man. He had to be shown those nail holes still visible in the risen Lord's palms and feet, so he could touch them and know it was actually the man who'd been nailed to the cross for cruel slaughter when falsely accused, arrested under suspicion, and returned to churchmen so the governor did not have to take any responsibility whatever for a lawsuit based on murdering an innocent man. The sacrificial lamb was thus taken to be murdered by soldiers so the elite didn't have to get their hands bloody, but it didn't take the stain from the evil spirits that owned the souls of these control freak revenge-seekers. Thomas was needed to show people like him who have to use their senses to believe, and the remedy to unbelief is effective prayer that begins with "Lord, please help me with my unbelief." Once in a while, a sensual man or woman has the opportunity to feel the nail holes after asking God to show them what they cannot see that other men and women can. People only try it when they want to turn their pointless life around and make it mean something while they are still alive. Just sayin'. Some are simply unmotivated to find spiritual joy, because it's their chosen escape.
