What is The Best Pie For Thanksgiving?

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! A banana pickle pie :aargh:
Welp...I bet they never had one before
Curiously enough, one of the pizzerias near me makes a deep fried pickle, but I've never tried one.
Maybe someday I'll dare one.

Almost as bad as my skittles & M&Ms idea.
I've only tried Skittles once--- kind of tart and fruity as I recall, but I actually much prefer the M&M Peanuts over just plain M&Ms.
But not with Skittles.
Pickles neither. 🥒

Key lime pie....!!!

The base is a simple graham cracker crust and the filling is just four ingredients: egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk, Key lime juice, and lime zest. Fresh key limes are nearly impossible to find where I grocery shop, so I use bottled juice.

Now I'm cogitating on combining 2 pies :eusa_think:

Peanutbutter & french silk pie (A giant peanutbutter cup).

A carmel-apple pie

Peanutbutter & raspberry pie (PB&J)

Banana cream & french silk.

Now you are cooking. Sounds great, but it sounds like it might need something to contrast against the raspberries both in color and flavor.
Ala mode for me. Well I never really learned plate display. I will ask my buddies Mike and John about eye appeal for it

Mincemeat can be great if done right. Same thing with raisin pie. I love cooked raisins, figs and the like.
Curious that no one here has raised any citrus pies (lemon, lime, etc.).
I love a good citrus. You can make a great pie using kiwis.
I was in Key West several years back.

I ate with my wife at a then fairly new restaurant there. It was called “Cerviche” which was their main claim to newfound fame. Excellent. But I was blown away by their Key Lime Pie. The best key lime pie I ever had. Maybe the best pie I ever had, in fact.

Perhaps the limes were the reason. The limes we get in the supermarket are called "persian limes." I assume they are imported and shipped and ripen along the way. They are used for their larger size and more juice. Unless you live in the Florida Keys, actual key limes are near impossible to find. Furthermore, they’re so tiny that you’d need to juice probably 3X as many to equal the number of supermarket limes.

Being fresher (and I assume with a bit of a different and more intense flavor profile) is probably what made the difference.

IMO, while I love plain pumpkin and apple pie, they are both so passé and over-hyped now that I'm simply burned out on both of them for big holidays. If someone brings me another plain pumpkin or apple pie (especially store-bought) for holiday dinner, I want to throw it out the window and let the cats eat it! In my book, anything but pumpkin or plain apple pie please. I want something fruity and light. So that also leaves out the plain, common heavier pies like sweet potato and chocolate or pecan pies.

There are many far better choices. Holidays deserve something special.

For Thanksgiving, pies I'm considering and would prefer including:
  1. Butterscotch Pie
  2. Cranberry Apple Crumb
  3. Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie
  4. Ancho-Chile Spiced Pecan Pie
  5. Cranberry-Orange Pie
  6. Nantucket Cranberry Pie
  7. Cherry Crumb Pie
  8. Double Cherry-Almond Slab Pie
My preference will always be a strongly seasoned fresh citrus cream pie followed by a really good peach pie and a good gooseberry or rhubarb pie has its charms.. I love apples but not in a pie so much. And I've never been overly fond of pumpkin pie but a lot of traditionalists expect it so it is part of our Thanksgiving meal.

Well, toob, what'd you decide?

That's my favorite pie! I would eat the entire pie! Lol

Here is how I make it:

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS TO MAKE:
  1. For the filling: Combine the cranberries, ½ cup granulated sugar and the water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook until the cranberries burst and thicken, about 10 minutes; set aside to cool.
  2. For the topping: Combine the flour, brown sugar, oats and cinnamon in a medium bowl. With a pastry cutter or your hands, work in the butter until large clumps form. Place in the refrigerator to chill.
  3. Continue to make the filling: Toss together the apples, remaining ¾ cup granulated sugar, the lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, salt and flour in a large bowl. Add the cranberry mixture and stir to combine.
  4. For the crust: Preheat the oven to 400˚. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough round so it’s slightly larger, about 12 inches in diameter. Ease the dough into a 9-inch pie plate. Fold the overhanging dough under itself and crimp as desired. Pour in the apple mixture and sprinkle with the crumb topping. Refrigerate until firm, about 20 minutes.
Bake the pie for 20 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 375˚ and continue baking until golden brown and bubbling, about 50 more minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool completely.

Enjoy.

We go traditional - pumpkin and/or pecan

This is the way.
There is pecan pie and then there is everything else

Pecan pie is great! But how many times have you had it? This is a special occasion, so why not expand your range into new horizons?
Such as:
  1. Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie
  2. Ancho-Chile Spiced Pecan Pie (yum)
  3. Maple-Pecan Pie
  4. Pecan Pie Tart (elegant)
Life is all about variety and new experience!

No, these are all the usuals. I can get these at Walmart. Thanksgiving holidays deserve something different, tasty and unique that most people have never had before.
Ohhhh..Kkkkk

I like that #3.
It'll be like drinking Maple Syrup straight from the bottle with pecans and pie crust.
