What is The Best Pie For Thanksgiving?

IMO, while I love plain pumpkin and apple pie, they are both so passé and over-hyped now that I'm simply burned out on both of them for big holidays. If someone brings me another plain pumpkin or apple pie (especially store-bought) for holiday dinner, I want to throw it out the window and let the cats eat it! In my book, anything but pumpkin or plain apple pie please. I want something fruity and light. So that also leaves out the plain, common heavier pies like sweet potato and chocolate or pecan pies.

There are many far better choices. Holidays deserve something special.

For Thanksgiving, pies I'm considering and would prefer including:
  1. Butterscotch Pie
  2. Cranberry Apple Crumb
  3. Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie
  4. Ancho-Chile Spiced Pecan Pie
  5. Cranberry-Orange Pie
  6. Nantucket Cranberry Pie
  7. Cherry Crumb Pie
  8. Double Cherry-Almond Slab Pie
Peach Cobbler

Peach Cobbler
.

I recall. My sister was an amazing cook. She used to make a huge peach cobbler. Then all the adults in the house (except me) would smoke some of that wacky weed, and we'd play cards and demolish that cobbler!

I like that #3.
It'll be like drinking Maple Syrup straight from the bottle with pecans and pie crust.

No, it's good! It has real maple syrup in the filling (and a hint of vanilla), and a crispy maple-sugar glaze on top!

I get it, when no one was looking, you crumbled up several big red sensimilla buds into the peach filling then baked it in! Brilliant!

NOOOOOOO!!!! Because I never liked using the weed. If I had spiked the whole cobbler, I wouldn't have been able to share it.

Eating weed is different from smoking it, a more mellow, body high. I remember in the 1970s I was going to bake a pizza in my parent's oven for myself and decided to crumble about a quarter ounce of pot on it as a topping just to see what it was like. That is enough to get you high for days. It was an expensive choice but it seemed the required amount.

Unexpectedly, it smelled GREAT as it baked into the cheese and toppings like an herb, and it filled the entire house with this wonderful piquant aroma. When it was baked to perfection, I took it out and my father had smelled it and came looking for a piece! He wanted to eat some of it! I could not risk a stoned father, I have no idea what effect it might have had, so I had to refuse him and tell him next time--- I felt terrible, he probably thought I was just being selfish, greedy and stingy, but I could not take the chance of getting him high.

So I ate the whole pie. About 20 minutes later I began to feel it, and I kept feeling it and feeling it, it kept getting stronger until my entire body was stoned! And I was ripped for many hours! I shudder to think what my father might have thought or done had he known there was pot in that pie much less if I had drugged him. Who knows, he might have been real mellow or enjoyed it but I kinda doubt it. :SMILEW~130:

I know PEACH PIE has already been rejected...but I hasta gotsta try one last time :D

After a huge heavy thanksgiving meal...You need to unbutton your pants or the button is likely to shoot across the room & take out a family members eye...and you call out "WHO WANTS DESSERT"?

This muffled groan floats across the room...dessert should be very light...some might say "waffer thin" :)

The perfect solution would be a mint malano cookie or a slice of peach pie (which is light, and fruity and oh so delicious)!

Great story!

At the risk of veering off topic -- we found it very useful when my hubby had certain side effects from pHARMaceuticals.

Mint is the best medicine for that too-full tummy.

Peach pie is great, but a bit sloppy, it never holds together and the peaches go everywhere. It just all falls apart because peaches are just so full of water, yet if you dry them too much, you lose some of the flavor.

Instead, I would recommend an apple-pear pie. It is apple pie but with pear in it as well and pear is much firmer than peach, and if you bake it with an open lattice crust, it further lets moisture to escape so you are left with a less wet pie with more concentrated flavors!

Very few ingredients needed, you use Granny Smith apples and Bosc pears (with just a little lemon juice).
