What is The Best Pie For Thanksgiving?

.

When I visited England, my hosts requested a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for nine people. When shopping, I was very uncertain about varieties of pumpkin for the pie, and canned pumpkin puree was not to be had, so I went with sweet potatoes. Whipped up double cream as the topping.

After dinner, Dave, who had polished off most of a bottle of wine, planted a boozy wet smacker on my cheek and drawled, "Your po-ta-to pie was GORGEOUS!) Badge of honor!

And there were very few leftovers to send home with guests.

My best Thanksgiving story.

One thing I always wanted to do (but haven't yet) is fill a crystal bowl with skittles & M&Ms...and watch the chaos as my guests grab a handful :laughing0301:

Pumpkin pie is meh.
It usually is, though there are good variants, but I'ver tried to avoid pumpkin here.

Mince meat pie is horrible.
Agreed.

Cherry pie is solid.
Blueberry pie can be great.
Yeah, a good blueberry is nice.

I enjoy Chocolate pie.
There are good chocolate pies. But I tried to avoid them here as too sweet and deserty.

Boston cream pie.
Coconut cream pie.
Both of these are great, but again, common enough that you can often find frozen versions of them in the grocer.
I see a lot of potential for the blueberry if combined with something else, maybe orange, lime or something else?

I usually create main courses like a chicken parmasian or cordon bleu. Or a homemade pizza...Things like that.
being raised by Sici's i also fancy myself somewhat culinary oriented Thunk

I consider it a pleasure to cook , which i do as much as i can

although i really could use a few more pork recipes...~S~

My big disagreement is with everyone's dislike of mincemeat. My English friend brought me a jar of her homemade mincemeat and it was beyond yummy! She also brought me a jar of her Damsons preserve. As this was post 9/11, I can't imagine how she got these through customs!

I also get nostalgic about my Grandma's Sour Cream Raisin pie. I think it's a New England thing? She was a Vermonter.

Thunkyou...but pies ain't my thing. I usually create main courses like a chicken parmasian or cordon bleu. Or a homemade pizza...Things like that.

Sounds good. For a meal like that, I might suggest a good shoofly pie or maybe a chocolate meringue pie! 🥧

Mincemeat can be great if done right. Same thing with raisin pie. I love cooked raisins, figs and the like.
Curious that no one here has raised any citrus pies (lemon, lime, etc.).
I love a good citrus. You can make a great pie using kiwis.
