I don't think The Carpenters had the same sort of popularity or impact as the others.Elvis owned the 50's.
The Beatles owned the 60s.
The Carpenters owned the 70s.
Michael Jackson owned the 80s.
After that I lost track.
You could throw Bob Dylan into the 60's part too.
Love early Beatles!!
I believe they were the most versatile band of that generation.

I have several early albums by the Beatles gifted me that are original first pressings recorded in monophonic. Probably worth money now, but I'd never sell them. How could anybody not like this lively classic from the lads from Liverpool.
I was just there a couple years ago. Believe me, you don't want to go. It was bad enough then, far worse now.Almost makes you want to take a trip to England.
One top 3 on the Billboard 100 for years, says they did. So do professional musicians (which I was), who say Karen Carpenter was the greatest US female singer of all time. I agree.I don't think The Carpenters had the same sort of popularity or impact as the others.

I just refuted that in Post # 31.The Carpenters were certainly popular, but you compared them to 3 of the biggest music acts of all time. I just don't think they were quite in that same tier. Almost no one is.![]()
You made an argument, sure. How do The Carpenters compare in album sales? I took a look and saw that they trailed Paul McCartney...not the Beatles, who were #1, but Paul McCartney as a solo artist. The Beatles, Elvis, and Michael Jackson are 1-3. The Carpenters are somewhere in the 65-70 range.I just refuted that in Post # 31.
Just for the record >>You made an argument, sure. How do The Carpenters compare in album sales? I also made a comment about Karen Carpenter today and had a 20-something look at me in confusion, because they had no idea who The Carpenters were. That's far less likely to happen with The Beatles, Elvis, or Michael Jackson.
Again, this is not a slight against The Carpenters. They were very popular during their time. But when you compare them to arguably the 3 biggest musical acts ever...they just aren't at that level.![]()
Overrun by foreign culture immigrants, no doubt, trashing one of the great nations of all time.I have several early albums by the Beatles gifted me that are original first pressings recorded in monophonic. Probably worth money now, but I'd never sell them.
