@rightwinger

In 1861 Article 4, Sec. 2, clause 3, was in play.

After the War, the Reconstruction amendments made that null and void.

Thus it matters which Constitution you are referring to.

Article 4, Section 3, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution is known as the Property Clause or the Territory Clause. It grants Congress the power to "dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United
Nope. That is what you say, becasue you are a lying asshole and a coward.

A child like view, and when I say child, I mean one of the dumber one.

For 160 years, this nation was fine with celebrating the service of the confederate veterans.

You are a mean spirited and dim witted asshole.

And again, nothing but you lying about what this issue is about. **** you.

I believe—though I’m likely in the minority—that the treason clause in the Constitution refers to individuals, not states. After all, the Founders did the same thing with the Declaration of Independence, and I don't believe they saw themselves as traitors. For the Declaration to be accepted, it had to be ratified by a majority of the states—each a sovereign unit. States cannot commit treason because they are sovereign, and the Founders, acting as agents of those sovereign states, were not traitors. I don't think the Founders saw themselves as traitors.

Likewise, the individuals who voted for secession were not traitors, because as a collective—acting as sovereign states—they were exercising a sovereign right.

You can’t be a traitor against yourself.

Treason is still treason. The only difference is if the traitors are victorious, they get to keep their heads.

Every revolutionary knows this.

Benjamin Franklin stated in 1776 that "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

His claim: For 160 years, this nation was fine with celebrating the service of the confederate veterans.

Not true. It was tolerated under the 1st amendment, but we were NOT fine with it.

Just like flag burning, or racist tweets.

When you go crazy, you go headfirst. Now you admit he was assassinated and paid a heavy price.
He didn't "pay a price," he was just murdered by a worthless criminal. One you seem to admire.

If the people of Puerto Rico were to vote to petition to join the Union (which they won't), the Congress would have to debate and vote on whether or not to accept them for statehood.

Longly said: Puerto Rico has voted several times for statehood in non-binding resolutions. However, Congress has not yet accepted Puerto Rico as a state. I believe it would be a mistake to do so until we are certain that the independence movement in Puerto Rico is dead and buried. Otherwise, we may find ourselves in a situation where federal authority is forced into direct conflict—potentially involving military action and economic disruption. In other words, we would have to kill their people and destroy their stuff, and their economy—something we should want to avoid, and something that might take Puerto Rico generations to overcome.
This is not a hypothetical concern. History has shown that unresolved sovereignty disputes can lead to violence, destruction, and long-term instability. If we ignore these risks, we compromise the integrity of our Union and invite chaos into its foundation.

Today, the political left considers the rebels who participated in the American Civil War—also known as the War Between the States—as traitors.

So you believe the Colonial rebels were not traitors either? Uhm, okay.

And you do know that the Confederate rebels were granted -- ahem -- pardons? Who gets pardons? Criminals.

yep

100%

Benjamin Franklin also said, “A man can only be a traitor to his own country.” I am an American.

This is in general reply to certain posters here and I think you know who you are:

Please sir, understand that I'm not trying to be offensive—but you fail as an amateur historian. The issue is that you lack historical objectivity. Was Brutus a psychopath when he assassinated Caesar? No, he was not. You have to look into the mind of the times.

I'm glad I'm not your teacher, because I would not enjoy failing students. Whenever a student fails, the teacher feels that they have failed too.

Please don't reapply or re-register until you develop historical objectivity.

If a thief robs you of our car, and you locate it and take it back, can the thief prosecute you for stealing back your car?

My point. As Ben Franklin stated, he knew they did wrong and would be hung.

Lincoln did not own a single state. For him to attack VA, and invade it with troops, did not make him right. Even now Democrat governors are angry at trump and tell him he can't come in. Are those governors' traitors too?

Well, are those governors traitors for opposing the will of the federal government?

You are the ones that keep bringing up slavery....all the time. 'Poor me we used to be slaves'. 'You evil whites owe us forever'. 'You need to give us your country because we were slaves once'. 'Pay us back what you owe us poor slaves'

Same old sad song....because it works. It makes hay for blacks and liberals. They can bash the South and destroy it's flags and monuments and voice their hatred against the white man and it's ok.

Quantrill
You have established your pro-slavery position. No need to keep repeating it.
