We fixed that.
Yes, but we had not fixed that at the time of the Civil War, so any claims of moral superiority on the part of Northern slave states for invading the southern slave states are lies.

And yes . . . because of the Fugitive Slave Act, all states in the United States were slave states, and every white citizen was a slave catcher.

Chat GPT Were Confederates Traitors?

Yes, from a legal and constitutional standpoint, the leaders and participants of the Confederacy can be considered traitors to the United States.

Here’s a breakdown of why:

1. The U.S. Constitution defines treason.

Article III, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution states:

“Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

The Confederate states levied war against the United States, which is the textbook definition of treason. Their military actions directly opposed the U.S. government, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

2. Confederates took up arms against their own country.

Many Confederate leaders, like Robert E. Lee, had taken oaths to defend the United States before joining the Confederacy. Their decision to support secession and lead military campaigns against the Union is a direct betrayal of that oath.

The veterans of the war, disagreed with you.

The UNION veterans.

I have asked this before and never got a serious answer.

Who are you to act as though you have more moral authority on this issue then teh men that fought and defeated the confederacy?

Who are you to act as though you have more moral authority on this issue then teh men that fought and defeated the confederacy?
Because I understand that slavery is a travesty of mankind

Your reading comprehension problems are your own.

No, you were teh one that brought up things out of linear time order.

I stand by my point. THe idea that seccession was legal, was a valid and understandable position at the time.

Which, imo, is one of the reasons that the north was so easily able to put the war behind them.

Doesn’t work like that
Sumter was US territory not the state of S Carolina
Just like Guantanamo Bay today

Anderson was a US Soldier, we could move him where we want. The arms at Ft Moultrie were US a property and he was right to destroy them to keep them out of the hands of insurrectionists

The South was right to negotiate the return of Ft Sumter. Attacking Sumter provoked a war and led to an ass kicking

It does work like that. Charleston Harbor was part of S. Carolina. Sumter was in the Harbor. It goes back to S. Carolina. Destroying arms and the flag staff was a breach of the agreement that no change would be made to troops and arms until negotiations ceased.

Yes, the South was right in attempting to negotiate. The North was wrong in breaking the pledge understood by all. Plus the North opted for a policy of delay hoping it would blow over or that the South would fire on Sumter, placing the North in the posture of defending the flag and freedom. When in reality they were stalling and provoking the South to fire on Sumter.

Not so.

Once South Carolina, or any other State seceded, they were out of the Union. Treason only affects those that are part of that Union. Any war levied against the North by the South was War, not treason.

And, secession is not treason. And the South seceded peacefully. Each Southern state passed it's secession. Each Southern state submitted the reasons for it's secession to congress. And then walked away. The South did not rise up and make war with the North to secede. She seceded peacefully. The North in turn forced the War, Lincoln especially, refusing to let the South go.

The Confederates took up arms to defend themselves from the North.

Lee's oath to the Union was null and void once Virgina seceded. Lee wasn't a traitor. Just like Jeff Davis was not a traitor. Just like the South was not traitor. The North was the only traitor in that War. Glory, glory, hallelujah...

And those that fought to end it didn't?

Just how ******* retarded are you?

YOu lose again.

You are the retard defending a legacy of slavery

The only thing to celebrate about the Confederacy is that their losing brought about the end of slavery

Those who celebrate the Confederacy defending slavery are retards

Taking up arms against your country is treason
Changing your allegiance does not alter that

Please pay attention. The U.S. was no longer the South's country.

They placed themselves outside of the U.S. Thus their allegiance was now to their State or to the Confederate States.

No treason by the South. The North was the only one guilty of treason in that War.

What you think about slavery doesn't matter one iota. It was protected by the Constitution.

Show where slavery is protected in the Constitution?

What is it with southerners and their obsession with the Civil War?

Which makes it treason

Treason

No it doesn't as I explained.

Benedict Arnold was treason because the American Colonies did not change their position towards England.

Neither Lee or Davis were traitor as their State seceded from the Union.

Only the North was traitor in that War. Traitor to their own Constitution.
