The Confederacy was created because the South seceded. The South seceded because it's legal right and protection of slavery was not being honored by the North.

The South seceded because they saw the writing on the wall in terms of long term slavery protections.

If they had remained in the Union, slavery would have slowly gone away. Probably in 20-30 years. They would have been compensated for their slaves and freed slaves would not have had the protection of the 13,14 and 15th amendments.
But they listened to the hard heads and fear mongerers and slavery was gone in 4 years with no compensation

The expansion of slavery should have never been a problem with the North. Slavery was legal. Just as the Northernor could go to the territories with his property, the Southernor should have been free to do also.

Instead, the North was constntly trying to keep slavery from expanding. That was illegal according to the Constitution. Yes, the South saw the handwriting on the wall, the Northern States were denying it's right and protection under the Constitution.

The South didn't need to work with the Constitution. The Constitution was already on their side. The North couldn't work with the Constitution, as it was against what they wanted. So they just denied the South it's rights under the Constitution.

Apparently, the Germans can differentiate a countries immoral policies from the soldiers who fought for that country. Not surprising; anyone over the age of twelve should be able to understand that difference.

As to Japan, they were allowed to keep their emperor, albeit as a non-devine figurehead. Hard to imagine any greater symbol of Japanese imperialism. They also honer their war dead:

Southerners and Texans honor the Confederate dead, not Confederate ideals. That's why it is the Confederate Battle Flag, not the Confederate National Flag that is so often flown. Six Flags used the Confederate National Flag for many years, but few others would even recognize it.

Trying to depict us as being descended from evil people with no redeeming value, who should be wiped out of history, will not win you any seats in 2026.

No, Quantrill was a guerrilla leader. The Confederate guerrillas did nothing to their enemies that their enemies hadn’t already done to them. In my opinion, the Union’s position in the Missouri region was even more morally bankrupt. The Union Army imprisoned women—relatives of guerrilla fighters—and housed them in a building that was structurally unsound.

They held William “Bloody Bill” Anderson’s sisters there, all of them young teenagers or younger. That building collapsed, killing one and severely injuring the others. Anderson’s extreme activities—what some call mass murder—did not begin until after his sisters were killed by Union forces. These women were held at a time when society claimed to protect women, yet they were left to die in a collapsing structure.

A basic principle follows: when you take someone into custody—whether military prisoners or civilians under law enforcement—you are responsible for what happens to them. The Union failed in that responsibility. Anderson was justified in considering his sister murdered. That’s when he became Bloody Bill Anderson.

Also, I find it interesting that the political left had no apparent problem with what the Vietcong guerrillas did in Vietnam—many of their tactics were worse than those of the Confederate guerrillas. Does that mean you approve of the actions of the Vietcong? Were they mass murderers? The answer, of course, is yes. But I’m curious what you think.
