....well, the Select Committee is about to step into the batter's box...

They got nowhere else to go! :icon_cry:

But I do and far better things to do. Y'all enjoy now, ya heeya!

Sure, Americans would probably like to know and might benefit from knowing of any or the criminal behavior of 1/6 at our Capitol was orchestrated by anyone in the government.
"... try just speaking forthrightly. Thanks in advance.

Well, let me speak forthrightly: .'Americans would probably like to know and might benefit from knowing of any of the criminal behavior on 1/6 at our Capitol was orchestrated by anyone in the government.'

You did good there, poster Again.
You should be happy with that.
Don't step on your message.

Why bother when the indicted had already been through one lengthy impeachment? Who cares?

You:
H4QNOf.gif
Wtf are you bleating about? Yes, the first impeachment has already taken place as has the obviously failed senate trial. But the assclowns in the Democrat Congress just had to try it again. Not because they had anything of merit. They didn’t. They did it for their always hyper partisan political purposes. And they made the Senate vote as a trial jury all over again. But to do it the second time, the House Democrats thought that it was “important” even in the last couple of weeks of Trump’s term. Neither impeachment vote was honestly predicated on anything approaching evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors.

So, dumbleputz, why are you whining?

I speak truthfully so it didn’t hurt to write that. But you don’t care for the full story. Truth ain’t your strong suit. The fuller truth, poor poster Chilliconfuzed, is that this partisan hack committee doesn’t give a fuck about the truth. They don’t care where the actual evidence points. They will reach their predetermined conclusion, anyway. And the total lack of reasonableness of their biased and predetermined “conclusion” won’t be a concern to them any more than their dishonesty will be.

I’ve already told you what they will “find” after this coming theatrical performance. It will have nothing to do with credible evidence, fairness, logic, reason, fairness or objectivity.

I like what Mac1958 wrote: "I'd actually be fully satisfied if they just present the facts to the historical record. We need to at least know what actually happened. If what those people tried to do isn't important enough to Americans, then we deserve what we get." Why don't you?

Actually, I like what Mac wrote too.
And thought that the WaPo quote included in post #52 in this thread referrred to a 'historical record'.
I welcomed poster Mac's reinforcement of what the Brookings guy stated.
You may have missed it, Sunset.

(From post #52)

"........the hearings will represent a historic moment........ “Either way, these hearings are very important in getting that information out there,” said Norm Eisen, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution...."

You are missing the crucial difference in that they want a big public show one that is very partisan based and divisive or as Mac1958 suggest just put it all in the public record bypass the Kangaroo trial show.

Left wingers and commies whined for fifty years about HUAC and Senate hearings in the 50's that were intended to uncover the communist influence in the U.S. Here we are in the 21st century and the left wingers and commies are in charge. Doesn't the "select committee" sound Stalinist?

Today's Washington Post has an interesting article about what is intended to be demonstrated when the televised hearings begin this week.
I cannot copy & past the entire long article (I would refer you to your digital subscription of the Post for that). But, I can offer you a taster of the coverage.

I found it particularly relevant following Maggie Halberman's (in Friday's New York Times) reportage....that Pence's staff had grown so alarmed over the safety of Pence following the stoking of animosity and anger towards him by the POTUS-at-the-time that they alerted the Secret Service that protection should be increased. They saw the storm that was coming by Trump's irresponsible rhetoric in front of crowds. (I'd recommend you open your digital subscription to the Times to read Halberman's reportage from Friday.)

Anyway, here is a taster from today's Washington Post:

"Almost a year after the formation of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, lawmakers are set to take their case public.

On Thursday night, Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will launch a series of televised hearings featuring a combination of live witnesses, pretaped interviews with figures that include Trump family members and previously unseen video footage.
The hearings mark the culmination of an inquiry that has involved more than 1,000 interviews and reviews of more than 125,000 records. Taken together, the work represents the most comprehensive record yet of the deadly assault, and which panel members have come to believe stands out as only the most visible evidence of a broader plot to undermine American democracy — one that emanated from the White House.

To tell that story, the committee will draw on testimony from administration insiders, including a previously obscure aide who has given the committee a detailed reconstruction of meetings and movements in the West Wing. The committee also has video recordings of interviews with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, that some inside the process believe will make for gripping television.

But the end result of the committee’s efforts remains an open question. Public opinions about Jan. 6 and about former president Donald Trump have long since hardened into competing blocs, making it difficult to break through, even with prime-time programming."

Should be interesting television. Historical television, in my opinion.
Of course, it will be compared to the Watergate Hearings.
We'll see how this committee presents its' findings.

Remember when the filthy, ignorant, deranged fucks on the left said Trump colluded with Russia and then the dumbfucks paid Robert Mueller $50M in taxpayer cash to prove that he didn’t?
Remember when the dirty, backwards fucktards said Trump leveraged Zelensky and then Zelensky said he wasn’t leveraged at all?
Is this another one of those circus sideshow sort of things?
How about you Mac1958 ,do you remember all that goofy shit?

Ah, poor BrokeLoser. You are dependable. My avatar will give you that.
If the most uber of the Rightfielders ever wanted to escape the now near universal cliché and accompanying disrespect that they are the vulgar, undereducated strata of our society...well, mein freund, you never make it easy for them to make that escape.

Just sayin'.

The Guardian reports, "Peter Navarro, a top former White House adviser to Donald Trump, was taken into custody after being indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday on two counts of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena issued by the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack.

"The indictment against Navarro marks the first time that the justice department has pursued charges against a Trump White House official who worked in the administration on January 6 and participated in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

"Navarro is facing one count of contempt of Congress for his refusal to appear at a deposition and a second count for his refusal to turn over documents as demanded by the select committee’s subpoena, the justice department announced in a news release.

"The former Trump White House adviser, who was involved in the former president’s unlawful scheme to have the then-vice president, Mike Pence, refuse to certify Joe Biden’s election win on January 6, was taken into custody at the airport."

"The former president’s unlawful scheme?" That brings up an interesting question. Trump is heard cheering on his mob, urging them to enter Congress and do the "right thing" by not allowing the certification of the Presidential election. His associates are doing his bidding. A number of Trump's close associates have been indicted or will be indicted, and some have gone to prison.

Yet nothing ever happens to the mastermind behind the coup attempt on Jan. 6, 2021. Donald Trump has never been charged with a crime. Why is that?

Donald Trump is the leader of the Republican Party, the king maker. Nearly every Republican running for office in November and the primaries before that ae seeking his endorsement.

And the Republicans are expected to win Congress in the November mid-terms.

On a related topic, Dean Obeidallah writes, "'Top Gun: Maverick” is summer’s first blockbuster, boasting breathless reviews and what will likely be the biggest box office in Tom Cruise’s storied, 35-plus-year Hollywood career.

"But there’s another potential blockbuster coming that I hope eclipses the audience for “Top Gun”: I’m talking about the January 6 committee public hearings, set to premiere on June 9. Just look at the advance buzz:

"And while “Top Gun” was just one film, the January 6 committee hearings are expected to be an eight-episode extravaganza. Some installments are even scheduled to air in prime time."

“The story of the worst presidential political offense against the Union in American history,” US Rep. Jamie Raskin.

How is it possible that this man is the leader of a major American political party? The answer lies in the current make-up of the GOP.

The Republican Party has captured the minds of those who live in the rural counties of America. Those voters are mostly farmers and rural shopkeepers. They lack education and they are not well-informed. Most of what they know about politics is by word of mouth, otherwise known as gossip.

At the heart of their rudimentary political beliefs -- for some reason they are unaware of -- Donald Trump is their savior. How that occurred is a mystery, and Republicans are unable to tell us because of their limited awareness. Moreover, they lack communication skills. The proof is their posts or lack thereof when it comes to defending their party's actions.

What is the response from the forum's Republicans to all this? They lie. They lie about the Democrats. They lie about our President. This can be seen in the thread titles.

For example, Biden is not going to Saudi Arabia to beg. In fact, Biden is not going to Saudi Arabia, period.

But a thread by a Republican tells you the very opposite. The Republican is lying.

Republicans lie ... a lot.

From today's Politico:

"The president will monitor but not react in real time. But the real audience is the public and… Merrick Garland."
"The evidence presented and testimony given could impact how aggressively Garland looks into Trump and his inner circle’s connections to the insurrection and other attempts to subvert the 2020 vote count."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that is an interesting insight. Some here think the only interested audience would be Democrats who are somewhat skeptical of Don Trump. It seems though, there may be a wider audience.

Perhaps AG Garland, and his team of specialist lawyers will be watching with a blue-lined yellow pad at hand.

I dunno. But am curious.

Remember when the filthy, ignorant, deranged fucks on the left said Trump colluded with Russia
That is a Republican myth. In other words, just another Republican lying.

The truth is Vladimir Putin helped Trump become President in 2016.

That is what Mueller investigated. That is what Mueller proved.

That said, Republicans will continue to lie about the Russian involvement in our 2016 election. They can't accept that Putin wanted Trump to be our President.

Poster is well named.

That's a strange and remarkable assertion.
To which I demur.
Can you offer the forum vetting on it?
A source other than your own personal opinion or similar personal opinions of such caliber?

FWIW, I thought my avatar was clear that the Committee's most beneficial function is to give America...and the world.....a clear description and accounting of the players, the decisions, and the impacts....not to mention, the events that were so alarmingly evident to those of us who watched that deplorable attack on the telly in real-time.

America wants to know who decided what, said what, directed what, and what the players did.....either putting the attack in motion, or clubbing down an officer with a hammer. We want to know.

And I would submit, patriotic responsible Americans need to know.
FYI, Chilliconfuzed: your “avatar” can’t be clear or unclear. You don’t even have an avatar, you dope. If you had one, it would be more than a simple little letter.

This is as close as you get to an avatar as of your prior post:

You silly little person.

"You don’t even have an avatar...... If you had one, it would be more than a simple little letter."

Ah, to be without imagination and humor must sentence one to a sad, narrow, and bereft life.
I sincerely hope it doesn't mean that for you but......
