We have six days until snap/food stamp cards might run out of money…predictions

You say that now, but what if you LOVED Cheetos and Kit Kats and tomorrow you found out you would be forced onto SNAP the rest of your life here on Earth.

I'm reasonably certain at some point you wouldn't also like a Cheeto or Kit Kat once in a while, especially if you were on SNAP through the fault of others.

Let's face it, something sweet or tasty is one of the most basic needs in a person's life, a basic pleasure, probably why many go on to be chef's and cooks.

Life is long and painful without at least a little pleasure once in a while. The State offers a certain food credit to people in severe need but it is up to the individual to pick and choose what to spend it on, either way, the cost is still the same.

One dollar's worth of chocolate costs just as much as one dollar's worth of Veal.
.

Flour, sugar, butter, cocoa powder, baking powder, cheese, cornmeal and nuts can create something just as tasty as candy bars and Cheetos. Unless you're working a job, you can get off your ass and make it yourself from ingredients on the non-junk-food side of the list.

I also make damned good ice cream.

So democrats are supposed agree to no backpay for government workers, no ACA subsidies, no reversal of Medicaid cuts, and no SNAP funding? Ok. No, this shutdown is soley on the GOP who want to destroy the country under their dear leader.

If only those claims were true, I'd be solidly on board.

Summary

The program activities of most federal agencies are generally funded on an annual basis through the enactment of regular appropriations acts. When those annual appropriations acts are not enacted by the beginning of the fiscal year (October 1), one or more continuing appropriations acts (commonly known as continuing resolutions or CRs) may be enacted to provide temporary funding to continue certain programs and activities until action on the regular appropriations acts is completed.

There are six main features of CRs.

First, CRs have provided funding for certain activities (coverage), which are typically specified with reference to the prior fiscal year's appropriations acts.

Second, CRs provide budget authority for a specified duration of time. This duration may be as short as a single day or as long as the remainder of the fiscal year.

Third, in recent practice, CRs have typically provided funds based on an overall funding rate rather than in specified amounts.

Fourth, the use of budget authority provided in the CR has been prohibited for new activities not funded in the previous fiscal year.

Fifth, the duration and amount of funds in the CR, and purposes for which they may be used for specified activities, may be adjusted through anomalies.

Sixth, legislative provisions—which create, amend, or extend other laws—have been included in some instances.

Sure, unless you suffer some sort of serious physical impediment or something.

Good point, but most of the disabled folks I've known have had help that could help them accomplish eating better.

But, yeah, I get you. I have those times when nothing but a Three Musketeers will do.

The SNAP program averages out to around $40 per taxpayer per year.

Whoop-de-*******-doo!

The problem is that I agree with you, what you say probably DOES apply to MOST of the people in the program. Certainly many. It is the remaining, what, 10-20% who really need and deserve the program that fall between the cracks that I worry about.
