Even though this was signed by a Leftist governor, its definitely a good thing.

No priest needs to worry about getting pinched over this, the *****-American community isn't going to rat them out to the police if they don't comply.

No priest, OTOH, need to worry about getting excommunicated and defrocked over this either. A priest who complies with the new law and drops a dime on local predators doesn't have to worry about vice detectives ratting him out to the archbishop.

The good point about the law is the fact it will cast doubts in the Child Molester Community as to whether its safe to tell a priest about this.

Some Child Molesters will undoubtedly quit the practice so they don't have to worry about being snitched on by a priest.

Can't see a negative here.

It violates the first amendment.

The issue is only the act of confession. If a Priest sees abuse outside confession they are still required to report like anyone else.

Not if there is an imminent threat of harm to the child.

Usually confessions don't deal with that, they deal with past acts. And part of any confession of something of this nature is the priest telling the person to turn themselves in.

The Catholic Church is bigger and stronger than any state or government that seeks to violate its sacred duty to its members to preserve the secrecy of the confessional.

Keep in mind that Nero, King Henry VIII, Stalin, and Hitler persecuted the Church, but now they are dead and the Church lives on.

I don't see how it benefits the RCC to have Child Molesting priests running wild when they can be ratted out easily to the police according to the new Washington State law.

It isn't the government that has to pay all of the judgments that the church has been getting levied against them.

If they are confessing to priests, they probably just end up swapping stories anyway. They aint gonna tell on them.
