Was watching the various New Years celebrations on TV, awful

You can't watch these networks and not feel that they are genuinely out of touch. No chemistry, no inspiring messages.

In New York, apparently, journalists were there to press the button for the ball drop, because they "had a tough year". Without disparaging those who have died in some countries covering important stories, we have seen a year of constant lies, misrepresentations and really anti-Americanism from many networks. Including CNN's own "Award Winner" in Germany who admitted to completely lying about his stories and interviews.

On CNN they had a woman on a super yacht, showing how the rich and famous ring in New Years I guess. How does this relate to ANYONE? They wonder why they are accused of being out of touch. They don't have bars in New York (which is as always, where they focused the majority of their coverage)?

Canadas wasn't very good either, but I will give CBC some credit for covering a very wide array of places and music types in Canada. From our Native culture, to country, African music and some crazy French band from Quebec. The coverage was nearly non-existent, just plugs for TV shows on state run news, and an ad from govt. of Alberta telling Canada we need to stop sending oil to America and find new markets, lol..

For those of us not interested in hitting a bar like I might have 20 years ago, give us some reasonable telecasts with people I can relate to. Are there ANY real musicians/celebrities with half a brain? For the Love of God...
Stick to Fox.

Why? They suck ass, too.

I did enjoy the Canadian coverage where they dropped a beaver

Good time was had by all

I saw some warm and fuzzy "hey look, these people are our friends!" When CNN was in Mexico City and also Niagara Falls. Anderson Cooper notes with his deep scientific analysis, "Canadians are so friendly". LOL, what a Tool.

Does Canada not have remote controls that allows one to change the channel?

Notice the title, "various", meaning "multiple, a variety of different selections" etc.

I watched CNN, NBC, CBC, a couple of local ones. We are not allowed Fox News as our government wants us to only watch left wing b.s.

All pretty week. It's sad when CBC was the more enjoyable of the lot. At least there wasn't childish, high school jokes and pranks being played for our "entertainment".

I think anywhere 100 miles north of the US border they still play with rabbit ears....

That was a joke everyone. a JOKE

You watched programs you dislike just so you could complain about them. Seems like a silly way to spend your time, but whatever.

I was cleaning out my mum’s attic and found an old set recently. She said she kept them b/c you never know when they could come in use. Apparently ‘never again’ didn’t cross her mind. lol

It was a silly way to spend my time. Isn't most TV?

New Years is a tradition in Canada, like everywhere, my wife and I just wanted to watch the countdown with the rest of the planet, but the additional "entertainment" showed that such low expectations aren't even met by the various networks.

It's just a complaint thread about what I saw. Maybe some of you enjoyed it. To each their own.

For real that joke is on me too. I grew up in the era of rabbit ears, three channels plus PBS, and NO REMOTES. I was my parents' remote. har har har

There is so much my children don't understand....like what do you mean, kid's shows were only on in the morning and afternoon for an hour?

Dang. What the heck

I increasingly don't understand and am very un-entertained by those shows. People standing around for HOURS and HOURS in horrid late-Dec NY weather--this year, a cold rain--and for what? They can't sit, they can't imbibe, they can't even pee. Did you know some of them even wear Depends? Don't think about that too much....

They stand there I guess just to be part of the "action" (whatever that means) and to watch the ball drop. Me, I've been watching the ball drop since I've been a child, from the comfort of my own or someone else's living room. I have no desire to see it drop in rain/snow/bitter cold.

So I guess that's my two cents! :2cents::blahblah::10:
The people are crowded together in little pens like cattle. I did see the ball drop. Years ago. When it was fun and people were allowed to walk around. It's too dangerous to allow that now.

You'd support less security? How about Trump's fence?

Everyone but you agrees that Canadians are friendly.

We are friendly, it's a misnomer though to suggest it so broadly. In Ontario, and especially Toronto, there are plenty of unfriendly people. Like any society.

I was told Americans were unfriendly, meanwhile when I was in New Orleans and Texas, I was shocked by how friendly they were. Even in New York some were friendly, others, were not. In Chicago people were friendly and I was told they wouldn't be.

My problem is not with the Canadian people per se, I'm a Canadian; it's with the unaccountable government and a few select Good Little Germans who don't appreciate history or understand basic human rights and curiousity. When the government tells them to jump they ask how high, instead of "why"?

This docile attitude is why some were so easily able to misrepresent me to protect their own abuses against Canadians and our allies. We are spreading our socialism into America like wildfire. You will see if you like the new "friendly" America if we are successful

Agree with that....Saturday morning cartoons. The best. I was specifically thinking about weekdays, before and after school. About one hour before and one hour after, that was it. If you got up sick in the middle of the night, you were out of luck. Nothing to watch on TV, not even a VCR to entertain you.

It's official: I'm a dinosaur.

America varies quite widely in friendliness I have found, with New York City being the absolute rudest I have encountered, the east coast areas surrounding less rude but still fairly rude, and the small towns in the Midwest just as friendly as can be. In fact in some places Midwest gals like myself have to stifle that open-hearted Midwest friendliness because it's seen as unseemly and forward.

Hubby and I traveled to Toronto for a small vacation about 25 years ago. I have a feeling that city is very different now. As for Chicago, despite it's big city status, the folks there are still steeped in Midwestern morals and politeness. I found the same in Denver; out West the folks are quite nice as well.

We played cards with a nice fire in our gas fire place and listened to music. Went to bed at 2230 an awakened with no hangover at 0630.
