Vote For DC Statehood Tuesday

The Framers established in the Constitution’s District Clause that the nation’s capital is a federal district, existing beyond the borders or influence of any state.

They never defined what that District would be.
That is up to Congress

Biggs’ view is supported by legal scholars, who opposed D.C. statehood’s feasibility without a Constitutional amendment to the 23rd Amendment.
The Office of Legal Counsel in 2007 believed it was unconstitutional, the Justice Department under former President Reagan and former President Carter stated the transformation was unconstitutional, and so did Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, when he sat on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Additionally, twenty-two state Attorneys General sent a letter Tuesday to President Joe Biden and Congress arguing Washington, D.C., cannot transition into a state via legislation, but only through the method of a Constitutional amendment.

Note the bold- that means boundaries borders HAVE to be- regardless of who sets it- they have to be agreed to.

just an attempt to increase their foothold in Congress.

IF both areas become states, Democrats would hope to increase the Senate by 4, and the House by either 2 to 4, depending on how many seats DC be allowed.

DC would probably only get one Congressional Seat, because that's what states of the same size get.

PR might be different. They are between Utah and Iowa, both of which have four seats in Congress.

Here's the real problem. If Congress reflected the population at large, Democrats would have convincing majorities in the House and Senate.

Yep, PR will be next. These moves along with changing voting laws will assure democratic rule. Sadly, the majority of Democrats are already too brainwashed to see the danger.

Who says Republicans can’t win in those new states

They just have to try harder

DC votes for Democrats in the 95%+ range. Republicans would have to do a complete 180 and promise to be even more wacko than the Democrats to have a chance. Maybe if they agreed to completely open borders, universal income, universal housing, all whites to be put in concentration camps, heterosexual marriage to be made illegal, taking all white folks’ money and redistributing to African Americans, etc. they may have a chance. Seems counter-productive to me.

Why don’t Republicans convince them that they are better off under Republican leadership?

That is the way it is supposed to be done

That would take decades to undue the indoctrination of the left. You can’t easily convince indoctrinated folks of anything they doesn’t fall in line with their teachings.

Republicans pitch is that you can be more successful in the US by working hard and being ambitious than in any country in the world. Democrat’s pitch is to just sit back and relax and those hard workers will provide everything for you, after all, it is the rich’s fault that they haven’t been more successful. Democrats play to the lazy, ignorant folks in exchange for power. It is a losing strategy for the country overall, but in the short term those lazy folks will reap benefits and that is all they really care about.

If we, the people , decide to move the capital to Palm Beach County and designate Mar a Lago as the new executive mansion I'd be cool with the idea.

Or if America decides to build a new capital city in Eastern Kentucky or somewhere else that needs the jobs.
Since the District of Criminals demands to centrally control everhthing, it stands to reason it should be centrally located- maybe in the middle of a wheat field in Kansas-

Indeed. Studies following WWII showed that in general Hitler Youth never totally escaped their early indoctrination, and remained by varying degrees loyal to the Reich.

The same occurs today among the children of jihadis.

This entire idea, to admit two Leftist areas as "states" even though one prospective "state" is just a city and the other only has a minority of citizens who are even fluent in the English language making it impossible for them to engage in the political debate and making them easy to manipulate as they will have to rely on Fake Translations, can backfire you know.

Suppose, in spite of this, the Republicans regain control. New, conservative states will be proposed to rebalance the Senate. Welcome to the new conservative states of Eastern Washington and Northern South Dakota.

More than one can play this game you know.

The danger of what? Letting people vote and giving Americans representation?

Wow. That's really fucking dangerous.

Here's the thing, dummy. If your whole political philosophy is contingent on keeping "Those people" from voting (and that's REALLY what we are talking about here) then that kind of flies in the face of everything you think this country stands for.

Simple solution, give the residential land back to Maryland.

What new states? :auiqs.jpg:

Puerto Rico has had several statehood votes. They've rejected it each time. They would be wise to continue their current status.
Then what are you worried about?
Let the process play out

For DC, there is no process short of a constitutional amendment.

Of course there is.
Cut out the National Mall area and declare that the new District of Columbia. Make the rest a state
The District has been downsized in the past
The rest can join Maryland. Ridiculous to give a city with no natural resources its own statehood and Senators.

Or people just don't buy your bullshit anymore. The real problem you guys have is that poor dumb white folks aren't falling for it like they used to.

Republicans pitch is that you can be more successful in the US by working hard and being ambitious than in any country in the world.

Um, yeah, that works well for the 1%, but what about everyone else?

Democrat’s pitch is to just sit back and relax and those hard workers will provide everything for you, after all, it is the rich’s fault that they haven’t been more successful.

You have it mixed up. The One Percent who have 43% of the wealth didn't do 43% of the labor to create that wealth.

Democrats play to the lazy, ignorant folks in exchange for power. It is a losing strategy for the country overall, but in the short term those lazy folks will reap benefits and that is all they really care about.

Here's the thing. The country enjoyed it's greatest prosperity when the Rich paid confiscatory taxes and the workforce was 33% unionized.

As I've point out many times before, "entitlements" - or as I like to call them, WHITE PEOPLE WELFARE takes up far more money than the pittance we spend on poverty relief.

We spend- 1 Trillion on Social Security and 800 Billion on Medicare. WHITE PEOPLE WELFARE. Things that all these knobs who vote Republican every year fully expect to get when they retire. We spent 150 Billion on Unemployment insurance.

Meanwhile, we spend 85 Billion on Food Stamps (SNAP), a program that benefits farmers just as much as it benefits poor people.
We spent 23 Billion on Section 8 Housing.
We spend less than 20 Billion a year on TANF.
The only big ticket thing that poor people get is Medicaid. 360 Billion.

So let's review.

We spend 1.95 TRILLION on Middle Class Entitlements (AKA White People Welfare)

vs.

$485 Billion a year on actual poverty relief programs.

The problem with your statement is voting Democraphicos don’t line up. The poor dumb folks vote overwhemingly for Democrats. It isn’t even close. There are some non-poor, even wealthy non-college educated folks that vote Republican. In your mind, and the mind of many “educated” baristas serving them $6 lattes, that makes them dumb, despite them being far more successful that you even without a degree.

Um, yeah, that works well for the 1%, but what about everyone else?

I am not in the 1%. It has worked very well for me. Sorry for your lack of success. According to your party, you are a white male and have no excuse.

The District has been downsized in the past
FACT

That satisfies the Constitutional mandate

So you think that it would be equitable to give the National Mall 3 electoral votes- in addition to the 3 given to the new state? The US Constitution, as you are aware, requires that the seat of government be given representation in the electoral college.

1st / only state not to have an airport...among a lot of other things?!

Most 'citizens' live, pay taxes in, and vote in another state....

This is a blatant socialist power grab.

Actually, the average Republican vote- White and stupid.

Most of them aren't doing better than I am.... but they keep voting republican because they are angry about the gays or abortion or scared of the darkies.

I'm sure you have the nicest Double Wide in the Trailer Park, Cleetus.

I'm doing fine, actually. I just have enough self awareness that if half the population lives in poverty, this isn't a good thing.

Duly noted you avoided the whole discussion about middle class entitlements...

Probably a good call on your part.

Where did our founders ever say you must have an airport to be a state? You must be listening to Trump.

Most residents of DC were born there. They actually have hospitals and stuff.

In what universe is allowing citizens to vote for their representative “Socialism”
