In the wake of a Virginia referendum on redistricting that could help Democrats secure as many as four more House seats come autumn’s midterms, a House Republican has an unconventional solution to help his party’s odds: return to D.C. a deep blue slice of the currently purple state. In other words, Make D.C. Square Again.

The legislation, introduced by Rep. Richard McCormick (R-Georgia), seeks to revive a long-settled D.C. border dispute involving neighboring Alexandria and Arlington County by restoring the original boundaries of the nation’s capital established by the Residence Act of 1790, when the map was square instead of its current shape resembling the continental United States. (Keen observers might note that, were Alexandria and Arlington discounted from Tuesday’s election, the referendum that could help Democrats win 10 of the state’s 11 House seats still would have passed, according to election results.)

“DC Bureaucrats hijacked Virginia … but we will restore it,” McCormick wrote on X. “That’s why I introduced the Make DC Square Again Act, because it’s a simple concept: DC =∎”

The bill aims to undo the 1846 retrocession of Arlington County and the City of Alexandria, moving about 250,000 voters from the Commonwealth to the District — which does not have congressional representation.

The bill would need to survive multiple layers of scrutiny, including from lawmakers who like the current borders the way they are. Residents of Arlington and Alexandria show no interest in leaving Virginia and, political observers say, courts are unlikely to reopen an issue treated as settled for generations. To local politicians, including fellow Republicans, McCormick’s proposal is little more than political theater.

A great idea that will go nowhere but at least it's being thought about. ;)

I'm more in favor of cutting NOtVA off at about Bull Run Mountain and give everything east of that to DC or MD.

When you wish upon a star.....

Not happening!

I brought this up with someone yesterday,

REPAIR THE SQUARE.

Give Alexandria and Arlington back to DC.

It is the right thing to do.

PHUCK POLK.

The residents have repeatedly wanted to reunite with DC in the past.

Seems like a great idea!

Oh, come on! Now you are writing comedy routines into your posts?

Democrats will only agree IF it scams them more seats. That party of cheaters, riggers and election thieves is unrepentant. Can't convince voters to vote for you, then just RIG and STEAL the elections.

We're good at it. Don't leave your car running, or we will steal that too.

Either the rest of DC should be returned to Maryland, or Virginia should give back the original portion to DC.

Half and half is gayness.

IIRC, Abbott and Texas began this gerrymandering war with Trump's blessing.

Actions have consequences.
<~~~~~~~~~~>
Several Blue Plantation states have engaged in gerrymandering practices aimed at reducing Republican representation in Congress. Notably, California and New York have implemented redistricting strategies that favor Democratic candidates.
Massachusetts has not elected a Republican to Congress since the 1990s, largely due to gerrymandering practices and the distribution of Republican voters, which makes it difficult to create districts that favor them. The last Republican congressmen from Massachusetts served during the 1990s, and since then, the state's congressional delegation has been entirely Democratic.
California and New York have also gerrymandered to benefit Democrats, potentially reducing Republican representation in Congress prior to the Texas efforts.

I'd like to see a Make DC Honest Again bill, but it would probably be amended with loads of exemptions, exceptions, deceptions, interceptions, and misperceptions.

Duck poop is the biggest issue.
I bet that's what caused the leaks.
