US obesity problem is not budging, new data shows

NEW YORK (AP) - America's weight problem isn't getting any better, according to new government research.

Overall, obesity figures stayed about the same: About 40 percent of adults are obese and 18.5 percent of children. Those numbers are a slight increase from the last report but the difference is so small that it could have occurred by chance.

Worrisome to experts is the rate for children and teenagers, which had hovered around 17 percent for a decade. The 2-to-5 age group had the biggest rise.

The bad news is that the numbers didn't go down, experts say. In recent years, state and national health officials have focused on obesity in kids, who were the target of the national Let's Move campaign launched by former first lady Michelle Obama in 2010.

US obesity problem is not budging, new data shows

The last sentence is very telling: kids are still fat in spite of Moochelle trying to force them to eat foods they didn't want or like.

I'm sure leftists are totally shocked at this; Democrats can't control people like most people do their pets. Besides that idiotic campaign, her husband also forced restaurants to post calorie count on all menus from coast to coast. He assumed that unless Big Brother told us a Big Mac combo was not the best choice for dinner, we wouldn't be able to figure it out ourselves.

The federal government is not our parents and we are not the federal governments children. I wonder how many millions of private and taxpayer dollars were wasted on these programs that turned up absolutely nothing?

Message to control freak leftists: Leave us alone! Let us live our own lives and make our own decisions! Really.........you don't own us.....

I don't care about fat people in Red States. They're the ones who need healthcare the most. That's why they get all those healthcare subsidies.
Republicans made a Moby their cult leader. After everything Trump is doing to his base, how can they still complain about Obama? Obama is not even president. Lard is.

Care, we had no knowledge of anything healthy. No healthy choices. Hardly.

This comment made me laugh. When we went out to a family gathering, the adults wanted to be left alone, so me and my cousins played outside if it was nice. To stop us from bothering our parents, they kept giving us a bottle of pop.

They didn't know the problem of too much sugar and caffeine. So when we got home at the end of the night, we were running around the kitchen table like we were high or something. My mother would yell at us "If you kids are going to get like this every time we go out, we're not taking you anymore!!!!":badgrin::badgrin: Yeah, like it was our fault we were so wound up. LOL!
Even if they did, there was no such thing as sugar free. No knowledge of carbs or how bad cooking with transfats were. Now we have warning labels on everything. Nearly every isle in the grocery market has healthy alternatives. Sugar free ice cream, cookies, etc.

Yet, we also have far more video games. I could be at the golf course right now. Instead I am banging away on my computer.

If this was not around, I would probably be fishing or golfing right now.

The problem of obesity is a complicated one....diet is only one component. Lack of activity...electronic stationary amusements....motorized toys instead of people powered....all create a grim outlook for today's children.

And processed foods which is just about everything people eat now..

Everything is get it now in the microwave which is horrible for young growing bodies..Michelle tried to go fresh foods, and get off your butt and move..
People are too busy working 2 jobs to make things from scratch..

No doubt a sedentary life style is harmful, but eating processed chemical tainted foods along with foods designed to make you fat (sugar and grains), will result in obesity and health problems.

Big food, big Pharma, and big government seem to prefer fat unhealthy Americans.

Doctor yourself.

The fatter the country, the better that place is to live.

Of course, the left will blame diet and sugar etc........meaning capitalism and America. Another little opportunity to justify their desires for communism.

Let me theorize what the problem has been. First let me point out what the left won't point out. Obesity AROUND THE WORLD has increased dramatically. They are not going to point out the problem in those socialist paradises in Europe. We all know why.

Obesity and overweight

Junk food, coke, Mcdonalds, etc has been around for a while now. Hundred years or more. Yet, the obesity PROBLEM has increased dramatically over the last 25 years or so. What has been introduced as a part of world culture over the last 25 years? The internet? Oh.....yeah. Since 1975 according to that study I provided, WORLD OBESITY has tripled. Oh right around the time home computers and video games and cable TV? Yeah, right around that time?

Huh.....

Let me give my little theory now. It is not necessarily what you eat. It is how active you are. It you are the type that is constantly moving.....and active you can eat whatever you want....within reason. As you grow older your diet should become more adult. Also, as you grow older the slower your metabolism. The less active you are, the better you should eat. That is the key.

Problem with kids (and adults) is we eat the junk food or load ourselves on carbs (or sugars) and then we do not burn it off. That is where the internet and video games play the major part. Along with excessive television watching. The average person probably spends 6 or 7 hours at work in front of a computer. Come home, and right back onto a computer or in front of a TV. Even if you got 30 minutes of exercise a day, it is probably not enough.

So, the basic formula (which is not rocket science) is the worse you eat, the more active you should be. Walk or find an activity that you do in the yard. Move, move, move. If you are not going to be active, then you better be eating strictly. That is the reality.

Don't let the American hating commies let you think this is a capitalist problem as they try and take over every nook and cranny of the average persons life.

You goof.. these convenience frozen and processed foods are making people sick and doesn't care what your political position is.

People get home from working hard all day and throw the frozen dinner in the microwave..not looking at what the poison ingredients are..

Dairy/ meat is jammed pack with estrogen's and drugs .. girls are getting boobs at 10 years old.. Estrogen's cause cancer..

In the 1970's early 1980's. we only had 1 McDonald's in our. closely knit three towns....there was no Taco Bell, there was no Wendy's there was no Burger King, etc etc etc....there was no other fast food joint...

And yes, there were sweets eaten, but it was once a week, or once every two weeks my mom cooked up a HOME MADE batch of Brownies or Tull House cookies and we could only have, 1 or 2...

It was a real major treat, if my parents took us to the Ice cream spot in town!

Everything is so much easier today, you can get any kind of junk food you want or the body is craving, in about a nano second.

Also, I think this goes deeper....it's sort of a real life, physical yet mental disorder...this craving for sugar which is making these kids obese and diabetic....the kind of junk food the kids are eating is sending a message to their brain, that they need more sugar...education is the only way to solve it, they have to learn to fight the cravings 24/7....and mothers need to read the label contents of everything they buy for their kids.

Well unless you go somewhere that makes homemade bread, any bread you buy today lasts over a month. When I was a child, bread lasted three days, and out to the birds it went if you didn't finish the entire loaf. Today you can keep a loaf of bread around for six or seven weeks if not more.

Mind you, I am not dismissing diet. As I said originally. The less active we are, the better we need to eat. Most people I think are lazy. I am. Worse as I grow older. I use to be far more active. I am almost 50, and I have friends that are very active that are my age.

One of my friends is a captain for American. He eats like total shit. I have seen few people eat as much as he does.

However, he is almost 60 and I know very few people as active as he is. He called me at 530 this morning asking me to play golf. He walks the course mind you, which is about 5 or 6 miles. I turned him down. I could have. Didn't want to. "Too tired." Get that? 10 years younger and I was too tired.

He will then get home, and he will walk the beach.....about 4 miles. Try walking on sand for 4 miles. Just try it.

Guess what? That friend of mine....even though he eats like crap is like a rail. He has a washboard stomach. He basically walks 10 miles a day. Not to mention what he does around the house.

That was when I was starting to realize what all of this is about. Granted, as we grow older, we should EAT LIKE AN ADULT. No more Mcdonalds drive throughs, Once and a while sure, but a handful times a year.

I eat at a place all Bolay all of the time by me. Find out if there is one of those by you. Great place. Even if there is not one of those, there are those types of healthy spots all over.

The bottom line is the sedentary behavior with kids. I don't really blame the parents. However, I would try my best to limit my kids TV time AND/or COMPUTER time. I would find more ways for them to be DOING STUFF.

That is the real problem. Anyone denying that we ate worse back in the 60s or 50s are really naive.

All of those restaurants, along with Taco Viva, and Sambos was around. TV dinners were very popular. Fruity Pebbles and cocoa puffs along with Sugar Smacks were very popular. There were no such thing as healthy cereals and there were no such thing as diet anything. No food labels to inform us of anything and we all cooked with transfats.

Stop it please.
