U.S. debt tops $38 trillion for the first time, worsened by government shutdown

So much for Republicans being fiscally conservative. Yet another major issue the two crime families agree on.

That number is not supported by anything I am aware of.

It's a lie.

The debt certainly went up under Trump.

And worse under Biden.

Is anyone aware of a grassroots organization that is focused on the national debt?
are we bankrupt yet?....... ~S~
It won't be bankruptcy.

The government will be paying higher and higher interest amounts and will compete for money with the market. Markets will get scared about their ability to pay it back and interest rates will go up.

And our debt will grow faster.

Inflation will take off and we'll be in a world of hurt.

I don't understand what you mean by everything we owned is worth 2X's.

I don't understand your numbers.

Just what is this saying.

In the first two months of fiscal 2026, we are about 18% below the amount we were in the first two months of fiscal 2025. So the deficit is slowing....maybe. We'll see.

Russell's numbers don't mean anything to me.

The adjusted 2025 fiscal was about 70 billion below fiscal 2024 (much of that reduction was attributed to tarriffs).

It's still too high....but right now 1.1 trillion of the 1.78 trillion is interest.

I don't see how he could have come up with 1 trillion in 70 days. That's garbage unless the system was holding a lot of receivables for about four to six months.

Going to be hard to cut that debt by 1/2.

Right now Social Security and Medicare are on a spend build and represent about 60% of spending.

//* Stupid OXYEN 🐂 🐂. They themselves estimate 3%-7% fraud so call it 10%-20% like Leon found. You ignorant stooges on this site are so out of touch it is not even funny anymore. You got the Dumb Mac&Cheese wing, the dirty Stain, your TDS middlers, all sucketh massive black crank. $1T interest and the fraud is what it is. They did it. From Obiden 1.0 onwards. They did it at $1.6T per. You turn smart peoples guts. *//

GAO's Fraud Analysis reveals that the federal government loses between $233 billion and $521 billion annually to fraud,

Sod off filthy wankers.

Does it matter? Obviously Donny loves blowing up the national debt. You can make excuses, but that exposes you as a partisan doofus.

The fiscal 2026 deficit is slowing (compared to fiscal 2025).

I agree that Trump isn't focused on this, but the tarriffs are being credited with bringing it down.

We are going to pay for it one way or the other.

I know you are a big fan of Massie. Do you have anything on his position on the deficit and debt? I am looking for a grassroots group to get involved with.

I'd prefer to read what you are reading.

I trust it exists. I don't ever recall seeing anything.

Who is Leon Muscrat?

This was something I found.

The federal government loses between $233 billion and $521 billion annually to fraud, according to GAO’s government-wide estimates based on data from fiscal years 2018 through 2022. Additionally, federal improper payment estimates have totaled about $2.8 trillion since FY 2003—and the actual amount may be significantly higher because this is based on a small number of programs that report these numbers. For instance, 16 agencies reported a total of about $162 billion in improper payments across 68 programs in FY 2024. Most (75%) of these improper payments were concentrated in 5 areas.

Is what you've seen.

Thanks for bringing this up. It is not something I've focused on. But it raises a lot of questions.

When anyone tries to cur a government program. Cut off money to illegals. Have work requirements for programs. Cut the fraud we see Democrats put on a pity party. The media join in

I would love to see a massive cut in spending. Not only to balance the books, reduce the size of government, but watch Democrats have a stroke and heart attack

I believe Massie has long called for a balanced budget and supports spending cuts. Obviously, not likely to happen with the congress and potus we have now.

Ask him.

Does it really matter? You’re whistling past the graveyard.

I would agree.

Trump is not a deficit hawk.

He wasn't his first term even before COVID.

GWB was the one I blame the most.

He really lit this fire.
