Yes, it was exactly true. Why would I lie about it? No one, including the companies bought insurance from the government. We all bought it through the free market. The checks for the premiums were written out TO the insurance companies.
Before the ACA took over, I couldn't afford to buy my own health insurance. The rates were getting higher and higher every year.
When the ACA came in, I was making too much money to qualify for any subsidies. So I went years without it. And didn't really need it.
When I came off the road and signed on with a small company, who didn't have health benefits, I finally qualified for the ACA. I myself chose the company to go to. I chose the plan.
The ACA hasn't improved health insurance or it's cost. Both Republican and Democrat administrations have allowed premium increases every year. Even before the ACA came about. Before the ACA, insurance companies had to get approval to increase premiums. And every time, both parties allowed it.
