Tough to keep up when partisan politics controls the language.Then the definition has changed.Fake News isn't usually blatant lying, it's aggressive spin of a given set of facts to frame them in the viewpoint desired by the author.
The original use of the term was to describe the comically fabricated "news stories" found on Breitbart, WND, Alex Jones, et al., during the Obama administration.
That was before Trump commandeered the term, of course.

Those are of course the most extreme versions of "fake news" and was the original definition.
Yes, Trump did extend the definition, however as we all know definitions can change over time. The concept of a "liberal" is a prime example.

They don't "control" the language. What they do is have the ability to shape the trend of the language because of their ability to use their strength of their numbers and their single mindedness to change definitions over time.
That of course works both positively and negatively.
