I doubt Trump wants to "buy Greenland" anymore than he wanted to give Canada five U.S. states, or have Canada become the 51st state.

This is a negotiating ploy, with which many Americans are not familiar.

My theory is that Americans have always had a wealth of ability, resources and labor and so negotitations of that kind were less productive than simply agreeing to the first offer and getting on with making money.

Europeans with their limited resources, and abilities need to haggle over every deal, so Trump plays along. Latin-Americans even more so, as Americans are confused to learn when they visit.

He wants cheaper fees from Panama for use of the canal, and maybe expanded military presence from Greenland. Denmark is already beefing up their military. NATO members not paying their share has long been a complaint of Trump's so this is a step in the right direction.
