We can't bring 'em back but we can better balance the needs of people with those of industry.

The real catalyst for off-shoring was environmental. In the 1970s we made a conscience decision to clean our air and water but doing so added a tremendous financial burden to our smokestack industries ... one that made their products too expensive to compete in the global market. The rest, as they say, is history.

I believe that faced with the same choice today - cleaner air & water or more heavy industry and jobs - we'd choose the former.
