Trump to end LGBTQ crisis hotline… why?

:slap:

Guess what sweetie, shows you can have different hotlines for different purposes.

How do you know you need an LGBTQ hotline?
By the number of calls received
Then you should start one exclusive to one group, that YOU fund.

The government will fund one for EVERYONE in crisis.

All Crisis Matter.

Domestic abuse is not for suicide. Neither is rape.

A suicide hotline can deal with any reason a person might be thinking of suicide. This is not difficult
SORRY most hot lines are TRAINED in the areas they are dealing with.
And need to continue working with the best info possible.

Then you should start one exclusive to one group, that YOU fund.

All Crisis Matter.
You put crisis hotlines where they are needed not where your political agenda says they should be.

But Trump did not say the LGBTQ hotline was underutilized so we combined it with others.

By all accounts, that hotline was very popular. To the tune of 2000 calls per day
Trump killed it out of hatred for gays.

The organization in question debunked the lie themselves, stop spreading it:

SAMHSA [the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration] insisted that affected youths can still receive help, but from the general hotline number.

'Everyone who contacts the 988 Lifeline will continue to receive access to skilled, caring, culturally competent crisis counselors who can help with suicidal, substance misuse, or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress. Anyone who calls the Lifeline will continue to receive compassion and help,' the agency said.

I understand debate about trans in sports and locker rooms etc. but why in the world would anybody end a crisis hotline that receives over 2000 calls a day? These are youth who are suicidal and in crisis reaching out for help. And there’s no plan or effort to replace the assistance with anything.

Play your political games all you want but cutting off a lifeline to people in need of help is just cruel.

Does anybody want to try and justify this?

Why not just the regular old suicide hotline?

They have been around a long time?

Again ignoring that a dedicated hotline for LGBTQ was generating 2000 calls a day.

You put hotlines where they are needed. Rape, Domestic Abuse, Suicide LGBTQ

General issues can use the general hotline

You put crisis hotlines where they are needed not where your political agenda says they should be.

Then fund one privately.

No one is stopping you.

Where are you getting this number?

AI says something completely different...

Sorry Skippy but I am willing to help anyone regardless of sex, race, orientation or political leaning
Cool, because that's exactly what Trump is doing... helping anyone regardless of sex, race, orientation or political leaning.

All Crisis Matter.

Not all crisis are the same

Trump….One size fits all

Because the LGBT community are a bunch of retards. If they need help, let them head to the nearest insane asylum and check themselves in.

There's the answer to your question. Because MAGA hates gays. They think that men are gay because they're "groomed and raped by gay pedophiles". And they're certain God opposes it, even though there is zero evidence from the Bible that he does.

This is simply hate and biggotry.

Where does the Constitution give the federal government the power to run a hotline for mentally disturbed people?

Did you read your link? The sucide, crisis line is still open.

SAMHSA Statement on 988 Press 3 Option

June 17, 2025

On July 17, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline will no longer silo LGB+ youth services, also known as the “Press 3 option,” to focus on serving all help seekers, including those previously served through the Press 3 option.

The Press 3 option was established as a pilot program in Fiscal Year 2022 under a government agreement with a third party. The Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus included a Congressional directive for $29.7 million to fund the specialized services. Federal funding in FY24 for the Press 3 services increased to $33 million. As of June 2025, more than $33 million in funds have been spent to support the subnetworks, fully expending the monies allocated for 988 Lifeline LGB+ subnetwork services.

Everyone who contacts the 988 Lifeline will continue to receive access to skilled, caring, culturally competent crisis counselors who can help with suicidal, substance misuse, or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress. Anyone who calls the Lifeline will continue to receive compassion and help.

Basically it cost millions just to have the option 3, which is completely unnecessary since the line is already set up to handle all crisis and sucide prevention. Trump is just saving American tax payers dollars for a completely unneeded option.

This is fake news. Of course.

The organization in question debunked the lie themselves:

It’s not fake news, it’s exactly what is happening. The are removing a specific option “3” that deals directly with LGBTQ issues. Yes there are still other options and support available. My question is why take away a specific focus that was receiving a ton of engagement.

Reaching out for help is a very difficult thing. Especially for kids. For those struggling with LGBTQ issues knowing they are calling to speak with a person who is trained and familiar with their struggles is a reassuring thing. Calling a general number is a crap shoot. What if they get on the line with a conservative evangelical counselor that believes homosexuality is a sin?

It just doesn’t make sense to take away or even reduce a service that was helping a significant number of kids on a daily basis

How many per day?

Instead of validating their mental illness and confusion, available mental health counseling should actually get them the help they need.
Where the plan for that? This action just cuts off a line of support.

Even though I don’t agree with the approach if you were really serious with that idea you would simply train the operations on that line on the best ways to handle the struggles of the callers. Eliminating the line all together just isolates kids in need with no plan to better help them

Indeed.

They are to be treated the same as any other souls in distress. Generically. No need to spend money on specialization.
Other souls in distress have specialize lines for out reach. Women’s issues, rape domestic abuse, child care, PTSD, grief etc etc etc
