Trump to end LGBTQ crisis hotline… why?

Its not discrimination in the sense youre implying... its issue related support based on what mental health struggles people are dealing with. Vets primarily struggle with PTSD... LGBTQ have their set of issues. Native Americans and other groups struggle as well. These are the highest risk groups for suicide so tailored services are provide in addition to general crisis counseling

Does your mechanic have the same make and model car as you?

Everyone has issues. The federal govt has resources for the vets via the VA so it makes since to direct them to option 1

The hotline simply connects me to an operator who connects them to resources in their locality, they don’t need to know your are gay before that happens

You said 700 earlier

Even doing the math 2000 out of a population of 340 million is small and at a cost of 33 million is insane
Another poster said 2/3 of the 2000+ daily calls were prank calls. I wasn't going to play his game so I made the point that even if that stat was true then it would still mean that about 700 legit calls were coming in a day which is still a significant number.

You're obviously not doing the math as you're trying to divide daily calls by an annual or multi annual budget... I've already laid out how to do the math. It came out to about $45 a call not $48K a call like you claimed. Im not explaining it again.. Do better

Maybe if you lived in a town of 3000

But not in a nation of 340 million and its costing tax payers 33 million just so the call center can know your are gay before they direct you to an operator to help you find help in your locality

Honestly, do you not think that 33 million could be better spent?

We're talking suicide here... not other issues, correct? Suicide is suicide... regardless of age, race, orientation, shoe size, etc.
Suicide isn't an issue. It is the result of a complex web of issues that vary from person to person. Support is aimed at identifying and treating those issues not just "Suicide".

Seems we could get by with one hotline.
Do think that would better help people than having specialized lines that target support for the most at risk individuals like Vets and LGTBQ?

When you call the hotline you get an operator that contacts you to resources in your communitee
You don’t have to tell the hotline you are gay before you speak to the operator

Xiden was collecting this data because the demafasict are bigots Slade3200 compared being gay to being deaf…and speaking a foreign language
Go ahead an quote where I made that comparison... I dare you. Liar

Oh it was rhe same hotline, this was just to have an option 3 to push on your keypad, at the cost of 33 million..but it was the same hotline that had the same service
Just having a 3 option does not cost 33 Million. There are resources that go along with it that add up to costs. Do you know what they are?

Watching you two talk is like the blind leading the blind

The people who run this service don't see the problem, so neither do I.

Your TDS needs a hotline. Good luck.

'Everyone who contacts the 988 Lifeline will continue to receive access to skilled, caring, culturally competent crisis counselors who can help with suicidal, substance misuse, or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress. Anyone who calls the Lifeline will continue to receive compassion and help,' the agency said.
If I gave you a quote from somebody who runs the program that does have a problem with it would you too? Or would you move to the next “defend Trump at all costs” talking point. I think we both know the answer

Yes, and it has a menu of options to choose from. You choose the one which most applies to your particular case, and you are connected to someone with expertise in your specific problem.

Trump is deleting the gay option.

Because that how that asshole rolls.

Is there a heterosexual option?

I’m sure the person doesn’t, it’s 33 million more dollars given to them

I understand debate about trans in sports and locker rooms etc. but why in the world would anybody end a crisis hotline that receives over 2000 calls a day? These are youth who are suicidal and in crisis reaching out for help. And there’s no plan or effort to replace the assistance with anything.

Play your political games all you want but cutting off a lifeline to people in need of help is just cruel.

Does anybody want to try and justify this?

All they did was remove the 'press 3' option. Anybody can still call the general hotline and receive competent help. The experimental 'press 3' option has only been in effect for a little over two years. I am sure it was considered not all that effective and that it was more effective to utilize the general suicide hotline.

The general hotline can transfer the LGBTQX+ kids to the Trevor center that fields most of those calls just as easily as the Press 3 option did. Or can put a trained professional on the line.

By the way there was no National Suicide Hotline until Trump signed it into law in 2020.

And no there is about 2000 to 700 calls a day, @Slade3200, gave me those numbers…out of a population of 340 million…not much usage.
Geez you dembots can’t be think
1.3 million contacts to the LGBTQ line since it started in 2022. That’s a lot of people in crisis reaching out and receiving support. Stop trying to minimize that
