Trump tax plans could exempt 93 million Americans from income taxes

Donald Trump's tax reform ideas could leave roughly 93.2 million Americans, or just under half of the U.S. electorate, off the hook for at least part of their income taxes.
Trump has proposed eliminating taxes on tips and Social Security benefits, and has also said he would think about exemptions for firefighters, police and military personnel.(and Veterans)
These exemptions are part of Trump's larger vision to transition away from the income tax system and replace it with the revenue he expects to generate from his hardline tariff proposals.

A couple of questions come to my mind.

First, those on the right often complain about people not paying any taxes, i.e. not having any skin in the game. How do you all feel about this?

Second, is the purpose of the hardline tariffs to bring jobs back or to create an non-ending alternative revenue stream for the government?

Servers will still pay some taxes on their actual income...the part that's paid by the actual employer.

I'm not the employer...if I give you money, it's a gift, not a wage.

Social Security...if you're getting it, you've already paid taxes for 20-40 years.

If you're getting paid from tax revenue...what's the point in taxing that. We've already paid that money in AS tax.

If you're engaged in a dangerous public service job that is already funded BY taxpayer funds...the government already got theirs.

...but, I'd have to hear more about this one to get on board.

The other two I'm all for.

Second.

Either way it generates revenue.

Tariffs or creating new higher wage jobs here.

It's win/win.

The other thing to consider is that the Heels Up Standard Deductible for married-filing jointly goes down from $30K to 12K.

Who would those proposals allow to be “people not paying any taxes?”

I would oppose people not paying any taxes, other than the dependent class, but the proposals you describe would not create such non-taxpayers.

Taxing SS benefits and government employees is taxing them to pay their taxes. Why not just eliminate income taxes as massive pay raise? Now, we tax people's paychecks to turn right around and pay them with the same money.

Tariffs are a win-win solution. Increased protection for products or an increased revenue stream for the government.

So you have someone just barely getting by on social security. Part of that goes to pay Medicare. So of course make it harder on the seniors to pay taxes on social security.
Some people barely make it on low pay and tips so of course we need to tax tips. Make it harder to get by.
I have no problem with taxing money that is taken from IRAs or other subsidies.
I have no problem if we give fireman, police and others a better tax break.
But I am sure you can find those that want to hurt everyone but themselves with higher taxes

I'm fine with not taxing Social Security benefits. That's never made any sense to me. The other proposals I oppose.

And what exactly is the depenent class? CEOS who get corporate welfare? Farmers who get subsidies? Landowners of National preserved land?

Who is heels up? Stormy Daniels?
