Trump signs executive order quadrupling beef imports from Argentina

The U.S. beef herd is at its lowest level in decades due to a combination of severe drought, high feed costs, and economic pressures on ranchers.

Key

  1. Drought Conditions: The U.S. has experienced significant droughts, particularly in major beef-producing states like Texas. These droughts have led to poor pasture conditions, making it difficult for ranchers to sustain their herds. The ongoing dry conditions have forced many ranchers to liquidate their cattle, further reducing herd sizes.

    2
  2. High Feed Prices: Rising costs of feed have put additional financial strain on cattle producers. As feed prices soar, ranchers face challenges in maintaining profitability, which discourages them from restocking their herds after liquidation.

    2
  3. Economic Pressures: Ranchers are dealing with inflation and increased operational costs, which have made it difficult to sustain cattle operations. Many ranchers are exiting the industry, leading to a long-term decline in herd numbers.

    2
  4. Low Heifer Retention Rates: Heifer retention, which is crucial for rebuilding the herd, is at a 30-year low. This means fewer young females are being kept to breed, further exacerbating the decline in herd numbers.

  5. Increased Demand and Import Dependency: Despite the low herd numbers, domestic demand for beef remains strong. This has led to calls for increased beef imports to meet consumer needs, highlighting the growing dependency on foreign beef to supplement domestic production.

In other words the high inflation Biden years were rough on the industry.
Thank Biden for all of that

Cattle populations are managed and if its low that was intended to drive up prices
No, the Biden administration engineered low cattle herds through the use of the bureaucracies to make life harder on producers because of the cow fart methane nonsense among other things. In fairness to the old dotard it started under Clinton, accelerated under Obama and wasn’t important enough for Bush or Trump to undo.

The main group representing American cattle ranchers has said the increase in imports is a "misguided effort" and will damage the "livelihoods of American cattlemen and women, while doing little to impact the price consumers are paying at the grocery store."

In a statement in October, when plans for expanding imports were first reported, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association said it "cannot stand behind the President while he undercuts the future of family farmers and ranchers by importing Argentinian beef in an attempt to influence prices."

Dotard put tariffs on imported beef from Australia, New Zealand and Brazil. He could lower them to where they were if he wanted to reduce prices but he'd rather prop up his anarcho-capitalist lackey in Argentina.
Yeah I'm gonna need detailed info on why increase beef won't lower prices.

According to the USDA, beef cow inventory is at its lowest in Nebraska since 1960, with cattle herd size decreasing by 20% since 2019.

So it is not America first to bring in supplemental beef while the herds are small and will take time to grow?

Beef is expensive right now.

If Trump did nothing, how is that good?

Prove it.

In major U.S. livestock regions, some ranchers have slowly begun taking the first steps to boost cattle production after the nation's inventory shrank due to a years-long drought that dried up pasture land used for grazing and hiked feeding costs.

By the beginning of the year, the herd had dwindled to 86.7 million cattle, the smallest number for the time period since 1951, according to U.S. government data.

When grass failed to grow on pasture land that turned from green to brown and as feed grains became too expensive, ranchers began to ship off more cattle to be slaughtered. Some producers searched miles away for hay to nourish their remaining animals.

With this backdrop, climate change causing draught which in turn causes less pasture land, the fucktard trump regime is doing this.

Trump Allies Near ‘Total Victory’ in Wiping Out U.S. Climate Regulation

In the summer of 2022, Democrats in Congress were racing to pass the biggest climate law in the country’s history and President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was declaring that global warming posed a “clear and present danger” to the United States.

But behind the scenes, four Trump administration veterans were plotting to obliterate federal climate efforts once Republicans regained control in Washington, according to documents reviewed by The New York Times and interviews with more than a dozen people familiar with the matter.

Two of them, Russell T. Vought and Jeffrey B. Clark, were high-profile allies of Donald Trump. Mr. Vought, who has railed against “climate alarmism,” and Mr. Clark, who has called climate rules a “Leninistic” plot to seize control of the economy, drafted executive orders for the next Republican president to dismantle climate initiatives.

The other two, Mandy Gunasekara and Jonathan Brightbill, were lesser-known conservative attorneys with long histories of fighting climate initiatives. Ms. Gunasekara, a onetime aide to the most vocal global warming denialist in the Senate, and Mr. Brightbill, who had argued in court against Obama-era climate regulations, collected an “arsenal of information” to chip away at the scientific consensus that the planet is warming, documents show.

So TRUMP does something to lower beef prices and democrats whine..

SUPPLEMENTING OUR BEEF SUPPLY: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a Proclamation temporarily increasing the U.S. tariff-rate quota for "lean beef trimmings to boost supply and make ground beef affordable" for American consumers despite current supply challenges.

The Proclamation permits an additional 80,000 metric tons of lean beef trimmings per year from Argentina to be imported tariff-free.

Lean finely textured beef (LFTB) also called finely textured beef, boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT), , and colloquially known as pink slime—is a meat by-product used as a food additive to ground beef and beef-based processed meats, as a filler, or to reduce the overall fat content of ground beef.

As part of the production process, heat and centrifuges remove the fat from the meat in beef trimmings. The resulting paste, without the fat, is exposed to ammonium hydroxide or citric acid to kill bacteria.

In 2001, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved the product for "limited human consumption."

trump is importing the meat leftovers in the hope it will make hamburger cheaper.

Another, related issue is this silly fascination with Angus beef. Hereford, and other beef breeds are just as flavorful

If Trump jerked the bureaucracy up short in Agriculture as he has pretended to do elsewhere the problem would take care of itself.

Bureaucracy didn't cause this.

Beef is expensive AF right now, and I would like prices to drop.

I hope I do not have to explain biology to some of you, but one cannot manufacture new beef overnight.

See, when a boy cow and a girl cow are in love….

When imported beef out competes the local market, that market dries up. That’s called economics.

Good. I am looking forward to bailing out ranchers just like we are farmers. Trump is excellent at destroying markets and then creating debt to pay off supporters. Cant wait.

The biggest, and best, reason to object is that government involvement in markets never has a positive outcome except for the very few who are well connected and are in a position to profit handsomely.

So TRUMP does something to lower beef prices and democrats whine..

/-----/ Libtards complain about high grocery prices and complain when Trump tries to lower them.

Perhaps they should have managed their herds better and not drive the price up in the first place
More supply equals lower prices.

That’s called economics.

So you're opposed to the tariffs then, I assume?

Yeah, he does.

Like on the Ukraine War issue. (What Ukraine War I hear you say, Trump ended that over a year ago I hear you say)

He's pro-Putin one day, pro-Ukraine the next. His policy at any point in time is based on who he last spoke to.

Even when people explain it to him, he still DOESN'T UNDERSTAND the issues. He's still in that moment "oh yeah, that makes sense" then the next day to the complete opposite "oh, yeah, that makes sense"

That's what happens when you put someone like Trump who can't even cope with his OWN ******* MEETING, says they're boring and has to "close his eyes" (we call it sleeping you stupid ******* president), in charge.

It all goes to hell because he cannot understand SHIT.
The leftist “rage jihad” continues.
