"The focus of the fifth Jan. 6 House select committee hearing presented findings about President Trump's attempts to involve the Justice Department in plans to help him overturn the 2020 presidential election, and the official in the department who sought to help him, Jeffrey Clark. GOP Rep. Scott Perry, of Pennsylvania, introduced Clark to Trump, bringing him to a White House meeting on Dec. 22, the select committee discovered. He had never tried a criminal case or conducted a criminal investigation when he plotted with Trump to oust the acting attorney general and take the job -- Clark pushed the idea of sending a Justice Department letter urging state legislators in Georgia to delay the election certification.
White House attorney Eric Herschmann told the committee in recorded testimony, "Clark's proposal was nuts. I mean this is a guy ... best I can tell, the only thing you know about environmental and elections challenges is they both start with 'E.'" Former acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue said he told Clark why he was "not even competent" to be attorney general: "You're an environmental lawyer. How about you go back to your office, and we'll call you when there's an oil spill." Engel told Trump that if he installed Clark, "the story is not going to be that the Justice Department has found massive corruption that would've changed the results of the election — it's going to be the disaster of Jeff Clark."
Trump would have went forward with making Clarke the AG; but when he saw how multiple people took turns roasting Clarke and making him look like a dunce -- he knew that Clarke didn't fit his ideal role of what he wanted his new AG to be....since everything with Trump is casting and appearances; Clarke didn't look the part...and then when he also realized that his fake "The DOJ found voter fraud" letter wouldn't get as much attention as the stories that hundreds of attorneys resigned from the DOJ would -- he backed off...because it's all about the ratings.....
But....I think Trump made a huge mistake in being a big pussy about US attorneys resigning en masse.....He shouldn't have been afraid of it....he should have just signed an executive order to disband the whole DOJ and then privatize the courts and the FBI.....yea, it wouldn't be legal, but none of the shit he was doing up until that point was legal either -- so who cares, just do it -- and then blame all the negative stuff on someone else....
Think about it, Trump is a business owner....he can easily create his own company to do court stuff and FBI stuff -- and Conservatives already love the idea of privatizing everything...and when you can truly control your own DOJ and FBI -- you don't have to worry about Deep State operatives blocking your plans....because when you are someone who hires the best people, you can be assured that the folks you want charged and convicted will be the right ones.....but since Trump was too much of a pussy to do it; maybe someone else like DeSantis will have the balls to do it ...at least he is actually smarter than Trump....
