Most of the news tonight was sports and weather. Seems that high winds plus at least one tornado sighting has put the central coast of California in the dark at least in the Monterey Bay area. They don't expect power to be restored until maybe tomorrow night. Tornadoes are really rare in that part of the world so I'm sure that made it a lot more unnerving for the folks there.

But since there wasn't a lot of interest news coverage I watched "Life, Liberty and Levin" on Fox News tonight. Mark's spent most of the program on the 14th Amendment explaining how it is very much misinterpreted now. It was never intended to make automatic citizens of children born to diplomats or green card workers or tourists or foreign students on visas and such all of whom are citizens of and under the jurisdiction of their home countries. It was intended to include the children of those who immigrate to the USA with the intention of renouncing their citizenship of whatever country they come from and declaring allegiance to the USA and the Constitution. It certainly was not intended to included children of migrants who come here presumably for temporary asylum or refuge.

The primary purpose of the 14th Amendment was to confer full citizenship to freed slaves to counter some areas in which laws would have otherwise prevented that.

With any luck those who challenge the deportation of migrants who had kids born here will be challenged in court so SCOTUS can settle that issue once and for all.
 
Tonight, Hombre and I watched some news from several sources.

What we saw/heard among other things:

1. Mayorkas says there is no evidence that those large drones photographed again and again actually exist. Video was shown of him actually saying that. Trump on the other hand says if they don't know what those are doing or who put them up there, they should be shot down immediately.

2. The Biden administration is sabotaging incoming President Trump as much as it can by spending as much money as it can as fast as it can, seemingly is escalating the wars, and is selling off the unused wall materials for pennies on the dollar so Trump won't have that to use. For those unable to figure it out, that is a significant waste of the people's money.

3. We just learned that Biden spent $3 BILLION on 93 electric mail trucks. That figures out to about $3.2+ million per truck. Think we got our money's worth?

4. Justin Trudeau has criticized the USA for failure to elect a woman as President. (I don't believe Canada has ever had a woman run for Prime Minister, let alone be elected.)

5. Biden just issued the largest number of clemency/pardons at one time in history, more than 1,500, and it is said that he is nowhere near done.

That was the highlights for tonight. Stay tuned.

The Department of Defense responded to ABC15's questions about the auction. They said they were required by Congress in section 2890 of the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act to make a plan to use, transfer, or donate unused border wall.

They said they submitted their plan on March 14, 2024, then "resumed the disposal of border wall material in accordance with the plan on that date."

The Department of Defense said federal agencies had the opportunity to "review and request excess property." They say since March 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection requested and received roughly half the border wall material turned in by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Yes it is clear in its definition. And those who maintain it gives birthright citizenship to children of migrants are deliberately ignoring its definition.

"Subject to the jurisdiction thereof. . ." The original intent was to exclude citizenship to children born to diplomats, businesspersons, tourists, all others who have allegiance/citizenship to another country. Yes a previous court ruling errantly said children of non-naturalized immigrants were citizens. But it almost certainly did not intend that children of people entering the country illegally on amnesty or otherwise invading would be citizens. I am pretty sure that's what a current SCOTUS ruling would conclude.

Just got a Newsmax bit that ABC News in Trump's defamation suit with them has settled with him for $15 million that will go to his presidential library. George Stephanopoulos had said on air in his interview with Nancy Mace that Trump had been found liable for rape and how could she support him? Trump has never been found liable for rape and it is high time these dishonest and destructive media propaganda machines start getting their comeuppance.

I remember Marla Maples, his second wife, saying publicly that she didn't believe for a minute that Trump had ever assaulted anybody. She said women constantly threw themselves at him and he had absolutely no lack of opportunity for consensual sex. It just wasn't in him to physically mistreat a woman though he could give them as good as they dealt out verbally.
