Trump official refers Rep. Eric Swalwell for a federal criminal probe over alleged mortgage fraud

Swalwell is the latest Democrat to face mortgage fraud allegations from Federal Housing Finance Agency head Bill Pulte, who sent a letter to the Justice Department on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON — A top housing official in President Donald Trump's administration has referred California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell to the Justice Department for a potential federal criminal probe, based on allegations of mortgage and tax fraud related to a Washington, D.C., home, according to a person familiar with the referral.

He is the fourth Democratic official to face mortgage fraud allegations in recent months.

Bill Pulte, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, alleged in a letter sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday that Swalwell may have made false or misleading statements in loan documents.

The matter has also been referred to the agency's acting inspector general, this person said.

"As the most vocal critic of Donald Trump over the last decade and as the only person who still has a surviving lawsuit against him, the only thing I am surprised about is that it took him this long to come after me," Swalwell said in a statement to NBC News.

The referral, according to the source, alleges several million dollars worth of loans and refinancing based on Swalwell declaring his primary residence as Washington.

It calls for an investigation into possible mortgage fraud, state and local tax fraud, and insurance fraud, as well as any related crimes.

The Justice Department did not immediately return a request for comment.

The move comes as Trump has publicly urged the prosecution of his political opponents.

Pulte previously sent criminal referrals to the Justice Department for two other prominent Democratic critics of Trump, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., as well as Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook — who was nominated by then-President Joe Biden — on allegations of mortgage fraud. All three have denied wrongdoing.

“Like James Comey and John Bolton, Adam Schiff and Lisa Cook, Letitia James and the dozens more to come — I refuse to live in fear in what was once the freest country in the world,” he added, referring to other Democrats and Trump critics who have been targeted by the administration. “Of course, I will not end my lawsuit against him. And I will not stop speaking out against the President and speaking up for Californians.”
Democrats aren't the sharpest tools in the shed--when you initiate frivolous lawfare, you should make sure your house is in order, no pun intended. Swallowswell is lucky he hasn't been indicted for colluding with enemies of the US after he was literally IN BED with a Chinese spy. Maybe its coming---we can only hope.

LOL. Name the Trump crony.

Guess what....you can't.

You're just making an assumption.

And you're totally ignoring the fact that the Biden Adm went after every friend and associate of Donald J. Trump, so your whining about unfair prosecution is highly hypocritical.
Cronies...congress and senate creatures who agreed to objecting on 1/6 of state certified electors, Clark, Meadows, Graham, Eastman, Powell, Giuliani, and others

Bbbbut, Bbbbbut, Bbbbbut, don't look over there, look here. How'd that Shumer Shutdown Failure work for you?

Certainly the dims realized this would be the consequences of doing the same thing to Trump, right?
You would think. But I really think that they had no idea this might happen. Look how shocked they are when the shoe is on the other foot.

Every time I find myself trying to figure the Democrats and "not Democrats" out on the basis that "they cannot be this dumb," it turns out that yes, they are.

What do you want to bet over these coming convictions?
I won't bet on convictions, because I never said they are guilty. I'll wait for the evidence, thank you.

I'm just happy that the process will play out as the law intended, and that we know that nobody - NOBODY - is above the law.

And if they are innocent, they have nothing to worry about.

I'm not worried about them, I'm concerned about the abuse of law aka lawfare.

DISQUALIFIED! — Congressman Eric Swalwell Names Washington DC Home as ‘Principal Residence’ and Has NO California Address!

And

A member of Congress can sell their house and move to Washington D.C., as the only residency requirement is that they must be an inhabitant of the state they represent at the time of their election.

They are not required to live in the specific district they represent, and they can sell their home and establish a new residence in D.C.

Explain the accusations of tax fraud.

I can guarantee if a totalitarian decided to go over anyone on this forum's mortage papers, they would be able to find an error they would call fraud.

The paperwork for a mortgage is literally a foot high, for those who don't know.

Trump can't stand being held accountable for his crimes. He's a thug.

That's just a lie, I've had mortgages is 4 States and the paperwork was never more than a bit over an inch, if that.
