The president is blocking Democrats' stimulus package because it contains $25 billion in emergency funding to the U.S. Postal Service.

The president confidently emitted this morning on Fox News's 'Mornings with Maria,' that funding the U.S. Postal Service is a secret guise for allowing mail-in ballots.

"That's a rigged election waiting to happen. It's rigged and everyone knows it because you can't send out 60 million mail-in ballots to everybody in the--who knows who's going to get them," the president uttered this morning.

"The mailmen are going to get them, people are just gonna grab batches of them. And you're talking about China and Russia and they'll be grabbing plenty of them. It's a disaster," he said as he continued his tirade against the U.S. Postal Service.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats have put forth a $3 trillion stimulus package under the HEROES Act, which the speaker went over this morning during her weekly briefing as bringing money to areas impacted most by the COVID-19 crisis.

However, Trump is unwilling to budge on the $25 billion Democrats will allocate to the "financially troubled" U.S. Postal Service.

'That's election money basically,' he said. "If they don't get those two items, that means you can't have universal mail-in voting."

Trump places blame of the stalled stimulus package negotiations onto the Democrats.

"It's their fault," he said. "They want $3.5 billion for something that's fraudulent ... for the mail-in votes, universal mail-in ballots. They want $25 billion for the post office."

Polisi's chutzpah

No surprise he could care less of anyone but himself and how he can cheat to get re elected. It's ok though for us here in Florida to mail our ballots.
So he's pushing AGAINST a voting system that's less secure. . . because he wants to cheat? On what planet does that make sense?
What's less secure about it? Here in Kansas anyone can get a mail in ballots just by asking for it. Kris Kobach tried desperately for years to find vote fraud here and failed before he failed to find it nationwide for tRump.

Mail in ballots are perfectly safe.
I'm not against absentee ballots sent out on request.

That said, if you can't see what's inherently less secure about mail-in ballots, you're being willfully dense. You're talking about the votes sitting in mailboxes unsupervised for hours at a time, then passing through the hands of whoever happens to be employed by the post office, also unsupervised in the case of the mail carriers picking them up and delivering them. The difference in logistics between that and in-person polling is so insanely obvious that I'm kinda baffled that I even have to break it down for you.

Want actual evidence? A county in NY just threw out 80k ballots in their primaries, which amounted to 25 percent of their vote, and that's not the only place that's had massive numbers of disqualified ballots. When have you heard of 25 percent of a precinct's votes needing to be struck down at in-person polling places?

80,000. . . where have I heard that number before. . . OH YEAH!

Because fewer than 80k votes were the combined difference in the states that put Trump over on the EC in 2016. That's right, 1 blue district in blue ol' NY just threw out as many votes as it took to put Trump in the oval office, thanks largely to mail-in irregularities.

But no, you're right, SUPER secure.
I'd say 80,000 smacks of voter suppression.
What's your point?

They wouldn't have had the room to strike them down if they were cast in person, genius. My entire point is that this set up creates massive room for fraud. I give a fuck what party the fraudsters hail from.

There is no evidence it is less secure. This is a attempt to suppress the vote. Trump should be prosecuted after he is defeated.
There's no evidence it's less secure? Do you need scientific studies to explain basic f'in logistics to you?

The ballots go through a chain of custody that is neither supervised nor verifiable. That is less secure than a polling place where people show up in person and establish their identity, then go into a booth with the one ballot that they're given, make their choices, and place it into the ballot box, all in a supervised setting.

I don't need to see conviction rates to know that observers keeps things more honest than no observers. It's so basic and stupidly obvious that I can barely believe that you'd try to make that argument.

he's abusing his power for his own personal benefit...instead of the American people and their right to vote, safely.... he should be overfunding the post office for this extraordinary pandemic period, instead he's cut it and slowed down the mail system.... so much so, that people are not getting their prescriptions through mail on time....

he is CHEATING FOR HIS OWN ELECTION..... why oh why can you not admit the truth? This is just plain wrong.

AND the gosh darn swamp needs DRAINING.... trump's new postmaster general is a huge donor of Donald Trump's, ran the campaign finances for the RNC, with Michael Cohen and Broidy who were both fired, and MOST IMPORTANTLY is heavily invested in US Postal Service's competitors like UPS etc with $100 MILLION of his asset investments....
You could say that.

Or you could uphold the standard that the democrats threw at us every time a debt ceiling debate came up during the Obama years.

Stop holding the nation hostage for your wish list of new election rules and GIVE US A CLEAN FUCKING STIMULUS PACKAGE.
Does voting really need to be defended to keep Trump in power?

What is it about America you claim to love? It isn't that 'freedom' part, is it?
Voting needs to be defended, period. From people who would compromise the sanctity of the process in the name convenience disguised as freedom.

The thing is, nobody WANTS to keep people from voting. People who want voter ID laws and who resist the idea of universal mail-in elections want our elections to remain secure from fraud and massive errors.
Maybe you honestly believe all that jazz, but it ain't what your Republican leadership is ALL ABOUT... they work, day in and day out, to disenfranchise CITIZENS of their vote and representation, that they think will support their opponent.
All either of us are pushing here are our opinions on what other people are thinking.

I daresay, however, that if the democrats actually cared about enfranchisement, you folks would push for free ID for everybody, not insecure elections.
When Republicans push for voter ID, why don't THEY also push for free ID? Doesn't their indifference to free ID imply voter suppression?
Republicans don't tend to push for free anything. More welfare is a democrat pattern.

It also isn't republicans trying to push the idea that black people aren't capable of acquiring ID. I just think that, if the democrats are going to present themselves as the champions of the downtrodden minorities, and champions of the poor and working class, AND they've decided that poor black people can't handle a tasks as monumental as traveling to a DMV, filling out paperwork, or saving up 20 dollars, then wouldn't those same defenders of the oppressed want those people to have the picture identification required to get lawful employment in this country?

But no, they don't even bring it up. They just say it's racist to require ID at the polls, but not once have I EVER heard a democrat say that it's racist to require ID to travel internationally. Not ONCE have I EVER heard a democrat say that it's racist to require ID to see an R rated movie. Not ONCE have I EVER heard a democrat say that it's racist to force people without ID to work under the table. The ONLY time it's racist to require ID is when it would prevent openings for voter fraud, and in that case, suddenly they've forgotten about how adamant they are about everybody's needs being guaranteed by society.

That shit doesn't make you wonder, even just a little?
Paying to vote is voter suppression. Paying a fee to obtain an ID in order to vote is a poll tax.

Voter fraud is a myth. If you can present evidence to the contrary, your Pulitzer Prize awaits.

everybody's mail box in a given neighborhood has mail-in ballots in them on the same day,
Nope, not true at all.
It's true in my neck of Oregon, sweet cheeks.
Why?
I'm assuming this is based on the same logic that the democrats use to justify all of the corners that they cut on election security: There haven't been that many convictions for voter fraud, therefore these obvious opportunities we've created for fraud don't actually exist.

he's abusing his power for his own personal benefit...instead of the American people and their right to vote, safely.... he should be overfunding the post office for this extraordinary pandemic period, instead he's cut it and slowed down the mail system.... so much so, that people are not getting their prescriptions through mail on time....

This is yet another example of the continuing efforts of Republicans to suppress the vote. A disgusting tactic from a group claiming to support the constitution?
If you want your prescriptions mailed to you, and you don't mind risking that shit getting stolen out of the mail, that's on you.

But when someone's ballot gets stolen out of the mail, that effects elections. That isn't just YOUR PILLS getting snatched up.

Also, the constitution doesn't guarantee the right to vote. If you're going to throw legal documents around, maybe read 'em.
And yet voting by mail is something that has happened since I first voted absentee while I was in college in 1976.

How would we have evidence of people faking their identities at polling places, if we never attempt to verify their identity?

Also, and again, if the cost is your issue, then wouldn't the fact that you need ID for legal employment be employment suppression? Why is that okay?

Why are you pushing for less secure elections and not for free ID?

The state's have shut down 90 % of their local voting places due to the virus, they now have a few mega voting centers. The volunteer election workers at the local precincts are mostly old people who have said they can't take the risk.

So polling places are miles away and not local for many, and then they have to wait 5 hours in line to vote.

PLEASE STOP THIS DISENFRANCHISING of our votes.....that's CHEATING.

Mail in votes is a way to reduce the 5 hour wait times there are voting in person in crowded areas.

There are only 3 New states...actually 2 states and DC, that announced they were mailing ballots to all registered voters due to the pandemic safety issues..... No additional states than these three...have changed their laws to accommodate such an idea that I'm aware...

And here is the kicker....it's California, Nevada, and Washington DC.....

All of them are Democratic voting states.... They all voted for Hillary by majority.... California and DC big time.

Even if your baseless and ridiculous claims of somehow mailing ballots to all registered voters would cause cheating and fraud and Trump to lose.....

It's laughable that you think Trump has a cold chance in hell of ever winning the Electoral Votes in a California etc.....under any circumstance.... in other words, their purpose IS NOT to cheat via mail in....THEY DON'T NEED TO CHEAT to win! IT IS FOR SAFETY REASONS, especially for those who do want to vote in person....less people, the safer the voters and poll workers, will be who do vote in person.

Trump admits he’s BLOCKING stimulus plan and funding for US Postal Service in bid to stop mail-in voting

THE PRESIDENT is holding up Americans' stimulus checks because he wants to prevent voting by mail fraud.

President Trump said Thursday morning he is blocking the $2 trillion stimulus package put forth by Democrats because it allots $25 billion in emergency funding to the U.S. Postal Service, which he equated as "election money" in convoluted reasoning involving mail-in ballots.

The state's have shut down 90 of their local voting places due to the virus, they now have a few mega voting centers.

No additional states than these three...have changed their laws to accommodate such an idea.

You say the Dems want the elections less secure for safety reasons.

I say the Republicans want more restrictions on voting to keep elections honest.

We're both correct, and incorrect, really. I know that my sensibilities match the latter statement, and I don't doubt that your personal feelings run along the lines of the former, and plenty of individuals in both parties sincerely hold these views. And then there are those more cynical politicians on either side who truly seek to exploit those sensibilities for less-than-honorable reasons.

As far as mail-in ballots CAUSING cheating, and causing Trump to lose, none of that is my point. My point is that the less ballots we leave in unverifiable chains of custody, the more secure our elections will be, period. This system creates the opportunity for fraud by virtue of being left in unsupervised mailboxes, and left in the hands of random mail carriers. Yeah, I want Trump to win, but my bigger fear with the universal vote by mail is that it guarantees that neither side will accept the results when they lose. Mark my words, if Trump wins, the Democrats will have such a sudden come-to-Jesus moment about the logistical loopholes in a vote-by-mail system that they'll undoubtedly forget all of these months of swearing by their infallibility.

I don't want people disenfranchised over this, but pointing out closed polling places is BS. I guarantee you can find volunteers to run those polling places in ANY state. I'm not adverse to massive loosening of prerequisites for absentee ballots due to covid concerns, but if I were in a state that even had in-person voting, I'd go cast my vote in the booth just to make sure it didn't get struck down by signature checkers. If weeks/months of BLM protests/riots are a good enough reason to encourage people to brave the pandemic, then an honest election DEFINITELY qualifies.

Why are they less secure? They go through the same process of verifying the registered mail in absentee voter that they do for everyone, including military votes.... They verify the signature on file, if it doesn't match, they contact the registered voter, if the registered voter swears it is their vote, then they are given the opportunity to come to the election office and prove it..... otherwise, the mail in vote is disqualified.

he's abusing his power for his own personal benefit...instead of the American people and their right to vote, safely.... he should be overfunding the post office for this extraordinary pandemic period, instead he's cut it and slowed down the mail system.... so much so, that people are not getting their prescriptions through mail on time....

he is CHEATING FOR HIS OWN ELECTION..... why oh why can you not admit the truth?

What fraud? And massive errors? Checks, medicines, taxes, property deeds are mailed. Why not ballots?

Your point?
WHERE'S THE EVIDENCE OF FRAUD?

Voter fraud, and voter fraud by mail, is a myth!

Our problems with the postal service and cut off dates and the people to count them all etc....can ALL BE SOLVED, if we had a Leader that cared about the American people's right to choose their leaders, in this democracy of ours.... thru our right to vote, without hurdles to jump over so to disenfranchise such vote, or...poll taxes.

I keep saying it over and over and over.

Unsupervised, unverifiable chain of custody is inherently less secure than in person voting in polling places with many observers.

But you pretend I haven't said anything, and simply ask me again why it's less secure. Over and over and over.

If my answer is incorrect, then tell me why, but don't act like I haven't answered this question. Over and over and over.

Is being disenfranchised by errors or incompetence somehow less disenfrancheezy than being disenfranchised by fraud?

Also

You suppose the voters who's ballots are tardy get contacted before their votes are struck down? You know, to verify whether or not they had intended for those ballots to get delivered on schedule?

When a precinct strikes down 25 percent of its ballots, do you think that those are only the people who they weren't able to get in touch with?

Add more mail boxes instead of taking them away.

Add more ballot boxes in populated areas instead of Republican legislatures taking them away.

This will reduce the need for massive ballot harvesting to turn them in.... which malfeasance can occur like in NC, where A REPUBLICAN OPERATIVE was caught CHEATING via voter fraud by not turning in the ballots he harvested from voters in poor and black neighborhoods.....

Also, an internet spot for the State, where it can be checked that they received your ballot would be helpful....

We went to the moon.
We spit the atom.

We can certainly get this election process during a pandemic right, without fraud and mayhem.
