Trump may have already changed his mind after today's market carnage.

It's an experiment and thr voters will decide it's outcome.

My 401k dropped a couple grand. Go look at yours

Yeah, I get that but I mean, I'm regards to what we were talking about..

Your posts.

A tariff is a tariff .. you said that.

Glad you understand that the American taxpayer is not paying for tariffs imposed on our goods exported to other countries… but we are paying on the goods imported here and tariffed by Trump

I never said that and "a tariff is a tariff" was meant to say that the people pay it regardless of where in the world you are

Americans pay for tariffs Trump imposes on imports

People in other countries pay for tariffs put on our exports

And all of it is stupid and economically dangerous

Yes, tariffs - which Democrats used to advocate for all the time - are DANGEROUS.

So I take it if we go through your posts from just a couple of years ago you'll be saying Democrats are dangerous.

Because you're consistent and intellectually honest.

You and your Ukrainian rag.

Wait… so tariffs are bad but you want them in massive quantities…

Yeah that makes sense

Unless of course the opposing countries come to the bargaining table and lower their tariffs after having been induced by our initial move.

And 50 countries have already begun talks.

Vietnam (and yes - we get A LOT from them) have already lowered their tariffs to zero.

Taiwan have as well.

Let's be honest, you're not critically thinking this through - or weighing pros and cons like a thoughtful objective person.

You're just playing team politics and reacting badly to Trump because he lives rent free in your head.

It's so crazy how you people can never just come to grips with that sad fact.

The throes of mental illness are difficult to escape I suppose...

No, this is a myth, Vietnam lowered their tariffs a few percentage points on a couple of things like gas and ethanol and a lot on automobiles, they didn't get rid of them altogether. They also promised they would use starlink in their country. No conflict of interest there, nope, nothing to see here. Maga will completely turn a blind eye to this, as usual. And bear in mind, the only reason why Vietnam did this is because they buy so little from the US anyway that this reduction in tariffs is meaningless to them. They'll just ride out the next 4 years. What was really gained here?

As for Taiwan, I think part of the reason why they aren't tariffing the US in return might have something to do with security. They don't want to end up being backstabbed by the Donald like he backstabbed Ukraine. Dump has a tendency to betray his friends and allies.

For a party that's been screeching the last 4 years over Joe Biden and grocery prices you sure aren't saying much about tariffs that will inevitably raise prices on everything. You aren't saying anything about the 11 trillion the stock market has lost since Trump has been elected and the 6 trillion loss in 2 days. Just wait till the stock market closes today. I wonder if you'll say anything when it finally crashes.

Astonishing, even considering it's Trump.

He lacks the self esteem to man up and admit anything, so he'll have to "cut deals" with countries (even though he called the tariffs "permanent", ha ha) and claim some kind of victory.

Thinking that America can return to being a global manufacturing powerhouse is beyond ignorant, it's delusional. It demonstrates an abject ignorance of the global picture. Unless he actually thinks we don't need the world to buy our stuff.

So now, we're seeing Vietnam, China (still) and India rise as the future hub for global manufacturing. As we speak.

Republicans SCREAMED about prices… and now defend Donald the Dope to the bitter end.

Even Elmo has bailed on this idiocy

correct, so, back to the original point, WE get shafted in other markets because they tariffs our goods where we might not have been putting tariffs on theirs.

True reciprocal tariffs help to balance the field.

Also, if tariffs were so bad, nobody would do it.

They are used in order to incentivize people to buy things made in their own country as opposed to buying imported goods.

this hurts us when we don't respond in kind because it means they sell a lot of their goods in our country and we dont sell as much in theirs.

To even that field, if they want to be able to do business in our markets, they need to drop tariffs so we can do business in theirs

“We” get shafted in other markets?

Who’s that “we”? Doesn’t cost American taxpayers a dime

Looks like our economy is getting shafted NOW

Sure..and I agree, this hurts..but, what is the cost of not doing it? Everything stays the same? Our companies don't get the same access to foreign markets? Doesn't that hurt our businesses? And thus, our economy?

The “cost” of not doing it?

Basically zero.

What is the cost of DOING IT?

Economic meltdown

You stupid sycophant

Not sure what the source was but apparently a wire service story came out this AM saying Dotard was going to halt the tariffs for 90 days. The Dow staged about a 1,800 point jump from being down around 1,300 to being up by 500. It went back down after the story was denied.

Which shows you how quickly things could recover if Dotard stopped being so Dotardy.

Long term cost, lesh. Do you think it's right that other countries don't buy as much of our products because their government wants to make sure our prices as not attractive? Not only does this hurt us by giving us less access to their markets, it hurts us here at home because American companies don't produce as much for our own consumers.

If we are always buying imported goods, American companies are not producing enough here at home for Americans to buy. This is the reason tariffs are a thing in the first place. So why is it ok when a foreign country uses them to help their own country, but it's bad when we want to use them to help ourselves?

If we hadnt started importing every thing, we wouldn't be in this situation.
