In 2014, the Ukraine violated its treaty with Russia by trying to stop Russia from using Sevastopol, and by trying to join NATO, in violation of the 1992 treaty with Gorbachev.
The only possible point of joining NATO is for the US to put first strike nukes on Russia's border, like we did in Turkey and Poland, (but were forced to remove them).
