Trump Kills $500M Expansion of Nissan Plant in Mississippi

You’re not going to complain about a $100K piano for the chief of staff’s home?

Of course you won’t.

DO you really think PVT Jones at Fort Riley is getting steak and lobster?

spending on steak and lobster.

DURR

And $100,000 on a piano...for the chief of staff’s home?

Are the troops being invited over to listen to it?

Still want to pretend that its money well spent?
Factually

I know you did.

However let me ask you this. How many of these multi billion dollar weapons of war have been built and never used in war; never fired their guns in anger? Its not a waste exactly but it’s not worth the billions we spent--especially considering the outsized spending we voluntarily undertake and also considering that most of the other formidable armies and navies on the globe are allies.

If someone buys an EV...they’re going to use it.

Quite wasting the debt on stupid weapons of war. Until we start paying for things, I'm against it.

Approximately how much is stolen from you annually in Federal income taxes?

Probably eaten by the troops.
Not likely.

Nothing about this administration informs any concern for the troops. Case in point. The other day, the blob during one of his many tantrums recalled 5,000 soldiers from Germany. If they were so arbitrarily recalled, why were they there in the first place? Why put soldiers and their families through the strains of being 8,000 miles from home?

$39 trillion in debt and growing is not a benefit.
One difference is that Americans actually derive some benefit from this expenditure. How many Navy ships have we retired that never fired their guns in anger? Each one represents a greater expenditure than the subsidy. The vessel it replaced (in most cases) would have provided the same deterrent.

Just because one thing is even worse does not make something else OK.

If it is this important to do, it's important enough to pay for.

Since the EV Credits were euthanized by Trump, Nissan decided to euthanize the expansion of their plant in Canton, MS.

Talk about getting what you voted for!

The plant isn't closing...its just not expanding

As we're seeing with the great Iranian mis-adventure, putting all of your eggs in one basket energy-wise can be costly. It makes total sense to go with hybrid (I wouldn't do electric only) vehicles. Some lessons need to be learned the hard way. Mississippi is learning one.
/----/ The way dmocRATs killed Spirit? You mean like that?

This is true. But you were talking about the debt load. I’d much rather have pocketbook relief than the Trump Fleet for example. Not only because a bunch of gold plated ships make no sense but because what they would be replacing is superior to anything else in the water already.

This is one way to offer pocketbook relief--hybrids--which fosters the growth and sustainability of an industry, allows for multiple spinoffs that often have high paying jobs, help with our climate challenges, and help get us away from having to go fight another pointless war in the Middle East.

Oh how I most certainly WISH I was wrong.
Unfortunately the empty EV car plant is empty....nobody works there....it sits unused. Nobody is making cars of any sort in it.

It would have employed all kinds of illegal immigrants and brought money into the state somehow....
/----/ Which EV do you drive?

Once again, I'm against it all.

Not just when the "other party" does it.

If it's so wonderful, pay for it.

Its hard to buy something when nobody is manufacturing it...right?

The subsidy helps develop the market; the market in this case has a high barrier to entry because we’re talking about cars. For comparison, Chatgpt is free to use so the market was there. Before that, the voice assistants Alexa (to name one) was given away for free. I know...I have one (Echo Dot) that was part of my Prime Membership; I’ve had it for going on 10 years now I guess. It was free so no barrier to entry. Amazon developed that market on it’s own and the barrier remains low. Car companies can’t do that. Additionally, the “refueling” infrasturcture requires a lot of regulatory approval.

Anyway...you know all of this.

Thanks for the discussion.

It was said no one would buy them. Toyota built the Prius anyway and people bought them. Others then joined the band wagon.

There are now tons of Hybrid options being built all without these subsidies.

Approve the infrastructure.

Hey Candy, dealerships are swimming in unsold EVs that nobody wants at any price.

My daughter has a 2002 Prius hybrid. She took me back and forth to a doctor's appointment. The readout indicated that she got over 90 mpg on the trip (with little wear on the tires). I asked her if it had power. She floored it and put me against the seat. Very impressive. I will buy a hybrid in the future.

I then impressed her by revealing that I "invented" regenerative braking back in the 1960's (on paper of course). I even 'coined' the name, "regenerative braking".

Trucks are still the biggest market in the US.
Nissan is taking advantage of that.
Liberals hate capitalism.
