One HUGE issue that I don't see discussed often enough is that this trump derangement takes away from legit criticism of Trump. Moderates, libertarians and repubs hardly have time to levy legit criticisms of the man or pressure him to do things that really need to get done because of the circius that is trump derangement syndrome.
The level of involvement of the Trump campaign with a Russian espionage operation clear meant to help them may be the most crucial question this country has faced in decades. This question must be settled. Making this just go away would make collusion with another government's intelligence apparatus OK in our election. This cannot be allowed to happen.
OK, fair enough......but wha tis good for the goose is good for the gander. The Clintons, both during bill's presidency and during Hillary's time in public service, have been involved or at least been accused of being involved in shady dealings with foreign entities(with quite a bit of evidence to back up said accusations), yet I don't recall this level of scrutiny from the right or the left.
But more to the point of what I was trying to get at, is the insistence of some in portraying President Tannen as a homophobe, etc and the second coming of hitler takes away from the legitimate wariness about some of his authoritarian tendencies.
You don't remember Vince Foster, Whitewater, Benghazi, e-mails? You don't remember the investigations into each of those scandals?
A Grand Jury was impaneled in the Foster case. A Special Prosecutor was named in the Whitewater affair. What did that investigation into an Arkansas land deal (like the deals Donald Trump is involved in) finally produced as evidence? A semen stained blue dress. Then impeachment in the House and trial in the Senate.
Benghazi? How many congressional hearings were had? You may recall senior Republican representatives saying there's no there there, so to speak. And that matter of e-mails ruined the Clinton campaign.
To your second point again, I suggest that you remember the way Conservatives* referred to President Obama. Rush Limbaugh, Conservative blowhard and radio star, said "I hope he fails!" Donald Trump, huckster buffoon extraordinaire, claimed President Obama was not an American citizen. Protesters against President Obama carried signs depicting the President of the United States in Zulu kit, as an ape, with a bone through his nose.
Now, with some perspective, perhaps you would rethink your claims. For you see, politics is a tough game, politics is reciprocal. To believe otherwise is both naive and hypocritical.
*I say 'Conservatives' rather than Republicans. I think this is important because your point deals with popular culture and perception. These issues are strictly partisan. At the time of President Obama' first inauguration, there were still moderate Republicans who understood bi-partisan politics. So your problem should be with pundits and columnists and bloggers, not the Democrat party.
