Trump budget would slash rental aid by 40% — and let states fill the gap if they want

War with other Americans? A preference over working together?
How did we get here? PARTY OVER COUNTRY.

both party's stink. Now more Billionaires running everything.
Less middle/ working class.
How & why?

I get it. But why stop here. Why not end subsidies for "everything" ?
Trump is playing 5D chess again…he wants your cherished brown cockroaches gone…every single one of them…this is just another tool to be used for eradication.

I paid for a black woman's clothes and groceries today. I passed on the opportunity to do the same for a white person.

The red states not only will not, they cannot make up the difference. They simply do not have the budget even if they wanted to.

Speaking as someone from a red state, if we could our Democrats out, we would be far into the black on the balance sheets. Our Democrats are REALLY poor. It isn't like it is in large urban areas.

If you are going to cut the safety line to those in need, maybe it is time to cut the subsidies to those making "billions" that really do not need it.
Did you bother to read the post? The aid isn't being cut, it's being redirected to the states so they can design programs that meet their needs.

states fill the gap...if they want

President Trump has repeatedly promised to "make America affordable again." But for those Americans most in need, his administration's latest budget plan would dramatically shrink the federal rental aid that helps keep millions of people housed.

In its request for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the White House called the current system of federal rental assistance "dysfunctional" and proposed essentially ending Section 8 and other housing voucher programs. Its plan calls for cutting rental aid by about 40% and sending that money to states "to design their own rental assistance programs based on their unique needs and preferences."

Not a bad idea, the states are more in tune with what their localities need then some guy in Washington DC

Nice to see Trump decentralizing power and giving it back to the people

All that means is that landlords will have to bring rates down to what they would be if taxpayers weren’t subsidizing them.

Good move.

It is high time to stop financing laziness.
Way-way-way overdue.

Because they are the engines of our economy.

sure

The proposal comes as nearly half of all renters are considered cost-burdened and as homelessness is at a record high. Advocates say that if millions of poor people barely making ends meet were to suddenly see their rental aid shrink — or even end altogether — it would tip many over the edge.

"We would see, I think, homelessness escalate in a way that has been really unprecedented, and unheard of," said Kim Johnson, policy manager with the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

And you don't think the landlords would lower rent vs having them leave and have no renters? You don't understand how business works do you?
