Trump blinks

No, American corporations and Republican policies fucked us. Not China or Canada.

Why are you being so silly? Yes, American, or should I say, "American" corportation and republican free trade policies fucked us.

But, So did our trading partners. And the dems Bill CLinton, Obama, and Biden, all maintained and built upon that same policy.

AND most imporant, TODAY, the choice is between keeping that **** US POLICY, or TRUMP.

And you are here attacking Trump. So.....

Think about how stupid you are. The American middle class has been screwed the last 40 years.

I agree. The American middle class has been screwed the last 40 years. Keep your mind focused on this. We are in agreement that the Free Trade policy fucked US.

Republicans said they’d fix this.

Well, not really TRUMP and MAGA said that they would fix this. REPUBLCIANS resisted us very strongly. Until we defeated and cowed them into submission.

NOW, they are onboard, with varying degrees of sincerity and enthusiasm.

Who are they blaming for your woes? China?

China has very strong and agreesive trade policy designed to benefit their people at our expense. To be clear, that is not really a mark AGAINST them, as their responsiblity is to THEIR people.

BUT, from our prespective, they do deserve some share of the blame. THey are NOT engaged in mutually beneficial trade, they are ******* US.

Canada? Mexico?

Yes. From what I have heard, all of our trading partners over the years, have taken advantage of our stupid FREE TRADE policy to benefit themelvse at our expense.

Not as bad as CHINA, but still some.

Everyone except for the people who actually fucked you.

Well, I haven't listened to all the republicans. I know that plenty of the people I listen to, are comfortable discussing the role of the gop in this.

The desire of people to NOT take the blame for a failed policy, is a weakness, a sign of lack of maturity or moral courage.

But, yes, I as a life long republican admit that the REPUBLICAN party's FREE TRADE POLICY, did not work. And we stuck with it, far longer than made sense, well after it was clear that it was not working.

FINALLY now, at long last, we have managed over here, to have a real debate on this issue and come to the political position of FINALLY doing something to fix it.

Oh. Back in the 80s, I was a free trader too. It sounded good. Initial results were encouraging. By the time of Patrick Buchanan, it was clear that the macro economic numbers were hiding a serious cost, ie the American middle class being fucked.

So, when I say republicans, yes, I am admitting my PERSONAL stake in the blame.

So.... yes, moving forward, I agree, the republicans need to be judged, by their past actions as well as how they are moving forward. When it comes to issues and policies in the future, it will be valid to point out that many of these people or movements, were part of the ******* OF THE US MIDDLE CLASS.

So, to that point, your complaint is valid and I agree that it is valid and that it is something to hold against republicans moving forward.

but, today, Trump, and MAGA have cowed the gop into FINALLY addressing the failed FREE TRADE POLICLY.

So, why you fighting us on this?

I'm going to have to go through your post a few times.

Republicans say unions are why jobs went to China. In other words, uneducated blue collar workers making too much. So you want to bring jobs back home. Great. First of all, they'll be automated. The jobs that will come for those automated factories will hire educated Americans. Robot operators. I still want these plants to move back, but it's not going to help uneducated blue collar workers. First, they already have jobs. 2nd, those jobs coming back will be done by robots.

So what do we see inside America. Take China and Mexico and Canada out of the equation. How do American companies treat uneducated blue collar workers in America? I mean jobs that can't go overseas. They have to be done by someone HERE. So what did companies do? They hired illegals.

And what we saw under Biden was unions went on strike and WON! They got their employers to give them raises. Now that's how it's done. Healthcare, UAW, Dock Workers, Writers, the list goes on and on. None of you seem to give unions credit for this. THEY have MAGA for those uneducated blue collar workers.

I can't wait for the 2028 UAW strike when Trump does not support the workers.

This is how I know Trump doesn't really want to help uneducated blue collar workers. If he doesn't understand the value of unions, he's an idiot. Or he's fooling you.

It's funny his plan to MAGA for you idiots is to start a trade war. Is that really the way to go about it?

They figure Trump is brilliant, and that his way is The Only Way.

If you disagree with his way, it must mean that you don't want to do anything about tariffs.

That's their thought process.

Seems a recall Dimwingers always bleating about how they fight for the working folks. If that’s true, how did they get so fucked?

But even most of the people on his team don't agree with him. Elon doesn't. But Trump is listening to Steve Bannon and Ron Vera. I mean Peter Navarro. Ron Vera is an anagram Peter uses when he wants to quote an economic expert.

Remember Trump has to do things that both help business and convince uneducated blue collar workers he's doing what he's doing for them. Manufacturing abroad has become expensive. So now Corporations want to bring jobs back home

a. So they don't have to pay the shipping costs.
b. Jobs will be automated
c. Now USA doesn't charge them taxes
d. Jobs won't be high paying union jobs anymore

So "bringing jobs home" isn't going to help uneducated blue collar workers like they think. Same way illegals being gone hasn't raised their wages yet. Republicans and corporations will do everything they can besides that.

And if wages go too high the Feds will raise interest rates to slow that down because it'll cause inflation.

The flock doesn't understand any of that. They're convinced that they'll see a clear and tangible improvement in their lives if Trump "wins" this ridiculous war. And, they've long been conditioned to hate anyone who is not MAGA, especially those uppity Europeans, and don't care if America becomes isolated.

All of the mal-information they've been spoonfed since the day Limbaugh went national has brought the country to this moment. Everything they've been taught not to trust is under attack, and they figure that's a good thing.

I don't argue with my Republican friends anymore. I ask them to help me make sense of what's going on. It's funny listening to them try to explain. One of them asked the group "one of my constituents said he already can't find workers so who's going to do the jobs once we bring them home?"

Good question. All I responded back was "those jobs will be automated".

Republicans here need to be able to make sense of this to us. Sorry if what Trump is doing doesn't make any sense even to them. Or they can't explain it. Or their explanation yesterday no longer holds water today.

A lot of people say this is all theater. I'm one of them.

What they "know" is what they're told in their world. What they are NEVER provided in their world is a larger picture, a context.

I'm the same way. I run from conversations on economics with them. It was my profession for a long time, and it's just depressing to watch them pontificate. If one of them brings it up in real life, I just stay vague and do everything I can to change the subject.

This idiot on another thread repeated what I heard the Trump administration and Fox News say recently. Time to help Main Street not Wall Street. LOL.

If they truly want to help uneducated blue collar workers, they should encourage them to join or start a union.

In 2023, unions experienced a surge in activism and achieved significant victories, including major strikes and contract negotiations. These wins included pay increases, improved benefits, and protections for workers in various sectors. Some notable examples include UAW, Hollywood writers and actors and the largest-ever healthcare strike by Kaiser Permanente workers.

In August 2023, a potential UPS strike was averted after the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and UPS reached a new five-year contract, which was ratified by 86% of UPS workers. This agreement followed a period of intense labor negotiations and a strike threat, which would have been the largest single-employer walkout in decades. The new contract includes significant gains for workers, including wage increases, improved benefits, and job security.

After Trump brings all these jobs back home, the uneducated blue collar workers are going to find out in order to get paid what they should, they're going to need to organize. That's the only way to get corporations to pay them what they are worth.

In the years since unions have been broken, CEO pay went up 1322% and workers only went up 18%. We lost our seat at the table!

This headline which has also been used on leftwing media sites proves the left has no interest except to slam Trump. Because if you people really were concerned about tariffs, you would be grateful Trump didn't go through with them right now. But the fact that you seek to mock and insult him for doing what you said you wanted....proves you people are partisan frauds or else trolls.

Which are you, Mac?

Yep. Some made sense. Some didn't. Targeted tariffs on select countries aren't going to cause an economic calamity.

Trump's an idiot for thinking he could get away with massive tariffs on our trading partners.
cause again, you don't care about american workers. I now see you've clarified your position.

Who knows if anyone in the administration has really thought this through. They're so busy destroying institutions and our trading relationships that they don't have time to be thinking of other options.

Working class Americans are going to be screwed by Trump’s trade policy more than anyone else.

Especially when the recession hits.

I didn't even know we were mad at the Chinese let alone the EU and Canada and Mexico. I thought we were mad at Illegals and too many regulations.

Trump is a master of distraction.

So, doesn't this feel like the Apprentice? All the countries are contestants and China got the final rose.

This is how brilliant Trump and Republicans are and how stupid Americans are. Unions fought against NAFTA. It was us, not Republicans. But Republicans now agree with us because Trump agrees. Funny how fast Trump can turn them liberal. But Trump is only for them if they aren't organized. If they want a seat at the table, Trump will never be for that.

Today they say they care about the deplorables. But remember when those deplorables were in unions, they said they were lazy and overpaid and sent their jobs overseas. They said it was unsustainable but it was sustainable in the 90's, till Bush and Companies decided they could make more money manufacturing in Mexico. Google Ford record profits 1999, 98, 97, etc. What was the problem?

It was liberals and unions who warned about illegals hurting workers. Them coming in for our jobs started on Reagan. So did NAFTA.

A few years ago I saw one of those interviews that comedians do at Trump rallies for comic relief.

So he was interviewing this young guy who just kept spitting out ridiculous misinformation. The comic kept calmly correcting him with facts, and the young man got a little exasperated. After the last correction, the young man stopped, and looked down at his feet for a moment. Then he looked back up at the interviewer and calmly said:

"I just don't care".

I'll never forget that moment. None of this matters. We can't expect logic when this relationship is so personal to them.

So, why you fighting us on this?

Why are we fighting you on this??? Because it's wrongheaded, stupid, and it won't fix anything.

Why has the rest of the first been able to adapt to global trade without destroying their working or middle class, and transferring all of their national wealth to billionaires????

We spend money on the things that matter most to us. The USA spends money on the military, and the wealthy. Working people are living in the "land of opportunity" and must "pull themselves up by their bootstraps".

Children of alumni move to the head of the line for elite universities, but "affirmative action" to ensure others have a fair shot to get in, are "unconstitutional and illegal".

The rest of the world spent money on retraining displaced production workers for jobs in the 21st Century. We didn't have a "Rust Belt". We spent money on infrastructure, education, and research, and working toward green energy.

The USA spent money on 30 years of war in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Flying into space, and dealing with massive climate change disasters.

Now you have a 6 times bankrupt, convicted felon running your nation. Nobody in the rest of the world thinks he knows anything about running economics, running a successful business, or honouring any agreements he makes.

My brother cracked and admitted HE DOESN'T CARE. He's sick of woke, affirmative action, being told us white guys are the problem and inherently bad, blablabla. Basically he swallowed the Nazi bullshit hook line and sinker.

He says as bad as Trump is, he thinks the Democrats are worse.

He's been convinced by Trump that Biden and Kamala are worse. Obama too. They even did this to the Great Bill Clinton. But back then they weren't members of Trump's cult. First they got brainwashed watching the Apprentice or when he showed up to WWE events. You should hear the Joe Rogan idiots cheer him at UFC events. Dumb asses. So are Rogan's listeners.

"I think Bill Clinton was a great president,’" Trump said in the interview that was conducted shortly after the 2008 presidential election on NY1's "Inside City Hall" program.

"You know, you look at the country then. The economy was doing great. Look at what happened during the Clinton years. I mean we had no war, the economy was doing great, everybody was happy. A lot of people hated him because they were jealous as hell,’" Trump said.
