The White House built wings. Perhaps structures could have been built on the grounds also. I understand the need for a larger structure for state banquets and get togethers. In fact, this building will be used a lot more than people think.

The ballroom is a monument to Shitlers! small hands and fragile ego.

Thank you for the information. I'd compare the ballroom to a lot of sports stadiums that don't get used most of the year. Fenway Park comes to mind. It is not used in the winter except for twice for The NHL Winter Classic.
