Trump Ballroom Unlikely To Be Built

Congress gave the President the express authority to make alterations to the WH.

3 U.S.C. § 105 Congress authorized appropriations to be made “to the President” on an ongoing basis “such sums as may be
necessary for . . . , alteration, ... improvement ... of the Executive Residence at the White House.”

Other presidents have made changes.
Like the drapes and the carpets.
Of course Obama made a major change to the outside tennis court, by adding basketball hoops, and painting additional lines. He didn't tear up the existing tennis court.

Adding a basketball court isn’t a major change. My point isn’t about what they did, it’s about what you all would be doing if they had done the exact same thing trump is doing.

When?

In 1948 congress gave the president the absolute right to teardown an entire wing of the WH without any plan or oversite.

Is that your claim?

Salon....Really? :laughing0301:

On time and on schedule.

Trump says it's on time and under budget. A man who lies about EVERYTHING. Only an idiot believes anything out of Trump's mouth.

Salon has a better fact check record than Trump.
  • Overall, we rate Salon Left Biased based on story selection that strongly favors the left and endorsements of political positions affiliated with the Democratic Party. We also rate them Mostly Factual for reporting rather than High due to occasionally utilizing poor sources and a failed fact check.

I think he is building the balroom because he knows he won't be around once he is out of office to have something like a Presidential library built, one that no one would ever visit, can MAGA even read?

Why would Trump build a library when he doesn't read books?

Without further Congressional authorization, yup.

Um, that's only for official acts.
(Which is not a new concept).
Unofficial acts are quite a different issue.
More Lawfare. Go for it. He's president for 3-more years, then JD Vance steps in. Keep dreaming.

Snitler! will be sucking dicks long before 3 years.

Ah, not it doesn't. It's specifically talking about ceremonies.

But hey, if it helps you sleep at night.

We'll see what the court says in a couple of weeks at the next hearing.

I’m sorry you can’t read laws or comprehend what they say and mean.

Carry on.

JoeB131 there was never any reason to build it. How many times would it be used in a year that it needed to be built. In order to figure it out all one has to do is find out how many times a president has held a gathering anywhere in Washington D.C. in any given year. It's doesn't surprise me that no news agency has ever calculated it.
Trump has had only 3 state dinners in 5 years as President...

Biden had 6 in 4 years.

Obama and Bush II had 13 each.

Clinton had 29...

Trump just doesn't do state dinners with other countries much... Seems like a complete waste having a ballroom which he would use once every two years.

BTW it was also build in the wrong place... There is a Monument to the right of the White house of General Sherman. Should have taken that park and build the ballroom there and call it the Sherman Ballroom...

Correct. But as you point out, that applies to the Executive Residence.

#1 That does not authorize the demolotion and construction of an entirely new building.

#2 The East Wing was not the Executive Residence. The Executive Residence refers to the space on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the main building where the President actually resides.

The White House built wings. Perhaps structures could have been built on the grounds also. I understand the need for a larger structure for state banquets and get togethers. In fact, this building will be used a lot more than people think.
