Was listening to Rush today and this guy calls in says he is a dyed in the wool conservative and activist and under NO circumstances will he vote for Trump. Rush starts asking him why and guy says Trump isn't a REAL conservative and started whining about free trade and healthcare etc

I got to thinking does being a "real conservative" mean you believe in and accept this free trade crap that is KILLING our middle class? If so how in the hell can "true conservatives" claim to be FOR the people of this country when they are espousing something that HURTS the people of this country?

Free trade isn't killing the middle class, and yes - according to the most often used definition of "conservative" in America, Donald Trump is most certainly not a conservative, and neither are any of his big government programs.

He is for fixi g our infrastructure which needs big time work. That will also provide jobs.

Course not...all them factories going overseas is doing wonders for workers in the US!

Trump is a centrist Progressive.

No, he's a right-wing populist.
Check your definitions, please. He is a Progressive, who believes in Big Government for economic, social, political, cultural change. His anti-immigrant is his only major deviation from centrism. He is for taxing the wealthy, single payer, etc.

First of all, that's not what Donald Trump is. His ideology have nothing to do with "social and cultural change" or "progress", and everything to do with "us vs. them" demogogery and "returning" America to some idealized and entirely fictional past. It's in his slogan.

Secondly, from a technical political science perspective, "progressive" doesn't really mean anything other than a political movement in the 1930s (which was itself a populist movement). Using the term in a modern context is as irrelevant as calling someone a "Bull Mooser", a "Know Nothing" or a "Whig".

Actually, it is - by forcing them to adapt and learn to do something else. That's the way capitalism works.

You crack me up. This guy is part of the problem if that's what conservatism is its better off dead and buried.

So you'd prefer that we live in a fictional past, and enforce laws to subsidize our mediocrity?

Rather than invent new things, we should keep making old things that other people can do cheaper and better, and have the government pay for it?

I would rather we make things in the US and if companies would rather put even MORE wealth before workers rights and jobs they need their crap taxed so highly its not worth keeping their factories overseas.
