Just having part of the island that could get up and ready would have been something to build on. They lived off our nation. They kicked part of the military off a couple of decades ago or so they were so spoiled. No one wants to diss them. I live in Florida for gosh sakes. To live without power and resources sucks! Teh citizens were let down by their power elite and corrupted ways to the point where they lived terribly for at least several months and some still do after the hurricanes. I'm sorry rightwinger, not everything is one way. Giving back is part of the equation and they have not. You better study most of those islands. Such beauty. And such poverty.

My understanding is much of that hurricane relief money was "misappropriated" (stolen) before anyone could use it for good and I haven't found out what the outcome of all that was.

It also sounds like PR is a little Caribbean island that runs on graft and hand outs from Uncle Scam and they don't want statehood because that would be an insult to part of the populace and they also don't want to be untethered entirely from the U.S. because that would mean no more suckling at the Yanqui teat.
