Tobacco versus marijuana

I am really confused how the same liberals who want marijuana to become legalized also want tobacco to be regulated, taxed, and sued into oblivion. What's up with that?
Weed has medicinal properties. All tobacco does is kill.

Nicotine has medicinal qualities as well. It is a stimulant. The issue is when combusted you get more downsides when used as opposed to caffeine, but vaping eliminates that.
The addiction and negative health influences of nicotine outweigh any possible medical benefit.

No, the negative aspects of the combustion products is the issue, not nicotine. and a better delivery system was invented, vaping.

Which ironically came from the pot industry.
If you do it right, it is safer. Buy the non flavored liquids. Dont smoke at a high heat as that release some crazy chemical.. cant remember what its called..
THC?

the definition of tetrahydrocannabinol

Well, sorry. I assumed you were implying heroine. Not a flower with edible seeds that is grown in gardens across the world.

Heroin is basically just a concentrated form of morphine, morphine being a natural component of opium. Licking "poppy tears" can get you high. People have been using opium tea for intoxication (and dying from withdrawal) going back to the middle ages.

The so called war on drugs has been an abject failure

To think that all of a sudden the number of addicts will rise exponentially if drugs are legal is pretty far fetched. Everyone who wants to do drugs is doing them now.

In fact real world numbers in places that have legalized possession of all drugs tells us differently

Portugal’s Example: What Happened After It Decriminalized All Drugs, From Weed to Heroin | VICE News

I'm not saying that the war on drugs has been effective. Not at all. But I don't think there is a pressing need to legalize marijuana or other drugs. Prohibition doesn't really prevent use, generally speaking. But it does force it underground. What I wonder is whether there is a benefit to society to bring that use out into public display. I'm not sure I want to be walking somewhere with my daughter and having to see park benches with unconscious or semi-conscious stoners or dope users who have intoxicated themselves into oblivion. And I think that if faced with that potential, most of society will think twice.

Also, it's hard to compare the effects of other countries with the possible effects here in this country. Portugal has an entirely different attitude toward drug use, particularly addiction. Legalization by itself cannot account for the results. They have a comprehensive system in place that is designed to minimize the total harmful effects of drug addiction. But that's not what most people in the US are calling for when it comes to legalizing marijuana. They aren't trying to reduce its harmful effects. To the contrary, most people wanting legalization are trying to deny that there are any significant harmful effects.

Wow, that's a really stupid argument. Recreational use of marijuana should be decriminalized because there are medical applications for it? In that case, we should decriminalize recreational use of opiates.

By the way, there are medical uses for nicotine too.

Nicotine as Therapy

Opium and Nicotine are highly addictive, MJ is not.

Antibiotics are clearly medical, but need to be regulated lest we develop super bugs.

heroin is full of harmful chemicals. Pot is all natural.
Maybe we should apply your logic to ALL things and ban them when you dont think its necessary. Like fast cars. Too many shoes. Too much wasted food. Cokes. Pastries. Porn.
What about those things? They all have bad side effects on society. Do you have outrage over those too?
Why cant people just let people make their own bad decisions? I just sit here and wonder, "who do you think you are?"

So your problem is pot will do the same things countless other legal substances do now? LOL

Forcing a commodity underground is what breeds crime and violence. We saw it with the prohibition of alcohol and we are seeing it now. How many trillions of dollars have we flushed enforcing the failed prohibition on drugs? How many Agents, cops and civilians have been caught up in the violence that is inextricably ties to illegal markets?

And it matters not what the effects may be. There are countless legal things that have harmful effects if used to excess.

Actually, I'm more concerned with the differences that make marijuana worse than legal substances. And I'm really worried about the nonsensical obsession that some people seem to have with advocating for its legalization. All in all, the modern pot culture is pretty trashy. I think it's sad that we are celebrating trashy pot culture and pretending it's high class and sophisticated. And it makes no damn sense for people to want legalization of pot while also wanting anti-tobacco policies.

Corporations make big money from tobacco ergo libbies hate tobacco
When corporations make big money from weed the libbies will hate weed

The appeal of weed is that it has been illegal for so long that even now when people smoke it legally they think they are being rebels and sticking it t the man

A couple of flaws in your analysis

Then in the next breathe you will condemn a libbie that runs FaceBook and is worth billions and claim he is a liberal that hates free speech...How rich of you to inform us of your one horse trick...

There isn’t free speech on Facebook.

So what's the difference between the illicit drug trade and illicit cigarette trade? How are we doing at the border? Immigration is legal, but there are still tons of people who insist on doing it the illegal way. There will always be an underground. But can you really say that society will be better served by inviting junkies to display their slobbering inebriation on the front porch? Do you really want your child saying "Mommy, what is that person doing?" when you are walking through the park and someone pulls out a syringe to shoot up?

It was far from an analysis and more of an opinion

But I'm not that wrong either

trashy? Your internet character is a porn star. LOL be real. What makes pot "trashy" anyways?
What substances are better than pot? What makes pot so bad?

It really doesn't bother me.

You can still have laws about public use of drugs just like we do public drinking.

It just seems silly to me to waste money (lots of money) and lives enforcing a policy that has failed at every turn and by every measurable standard.

Stop wasting all that money and use a tiny fraction of it to offer treatment instead of jail time

And its up to you to teach your kids about the world not me.

Probably the same arguments they used during prohibition. "do we want drunks walking down the street?" Lol
