To Those On The Left: Why Are You Voting For Biden?

My question to you is a very simple one: Why are you voting for Biden?
I don't want to. He's a terrible candidate. The Democratic Party is a fucked up, PC/Identity Politics-consumed shit show. And even though I definitely agree with the Democrats (in general) on more issues -- and isn't that how we make voting decisions, usually? -- I would very much like to vote third party.

But (a) I live in a purple state, and (b) I think Trumpism is an ugly moment in our history, so it looks like I don't have a fucking choice.

If that's successful, the next step is to get to work on the Democratic Party, which damn sure needs it.

Do you think Biden is someone who the most horrible PC/Identity Politics slaves in the Dem party chose to be their candidate?
No, because the nutters still represent a smaller percentage of the party. Thankfully. At the moment. For now.

They're just much louder and far more annoying.

I see. So the fucked up party chose a moderate who’s very likely to offer an olive branch to the GOP in an attempt to bring the nation together as their nominee. He’s not going to veer left as we approach November. He’s headed to the center...just where you want him to go.

It wasn’t even close. No challenger gave Biden any trouble at all. Black women, black people in general, women, young voters and LGTBQ voters all tossed the ddentity politics aside and chose for the old, straight, white guy.

Biden is not going to veer left as we approach November. He’s headed to the center...just where you want him to go. But you call him a terrible candidate. You don’t want to vote for the moderate centrist.

Maybe that means something?

The moderate centrists have us in at least 5 wars. 26 trillion in debt. A an every growing wealth gap. What exactly there appeals to you?

The party routinely gives a middle finger to the people who want to see change. What makes you think you can change that?
Which party are we talking about?

The one you say you want to work on.
Well, three part answer, trying to keep it brief:

1. Creating change is easier -- well, less terribly difficult and impossible -- on a local/state level if you have the patience and keep going.

We had a great candidate for change here in WV for governor.

Stephen Smith for WV Governor: WV Can’t Wait!

The DNC came in late and ran another corporate (D). Plowed a ton of money into his campaign and then got Manchin to back him.

No, I think they are pretty much as corrupted as the (R)'s.

2. The bigger problem is the system under which these people operate, and we have to keep pounding on that -- unfortunately the country as a whole is more concerned about who the Kardashian girls are banging, so this is a slow process.

As long as the government continues to "give" the people a few bucks here or there they are going to be complacent enough until it all crashes.

3. All we can do is our little part when we can, and support those few remaining souls who appear to have retained some degree of reason and critical thinking.

Too bad the party overall doesn't.
Well, the lunatics are in control of the asylum. The question is whether the rest of us -- the majority -- can get it back.

I used to be more confident about that. Now I'm about 50/50.

I don't think it's a majority. Too many simply want to win. They don't care who it is or what they stand for. Our current governor is a coal baron that the (D)'s elected the last time and then he quickly flipped to (R). Everyone told me that I had to vote for him the last time or the (R) candidate would win (who was a terrible choice also) but I disagree with that kind of thinking.

I think the only positive was he was embarrassed into coming to some sort of agreement to pay his millions in mine safety violations.
It’s clear we need fundamental change, but neither party is offering that. Both parties are happy with the status quo. The consequences of this are the nation will continue to decline and the people will suffer. The 1% will do great.

I find it odd at how many vote against their own interests just to "win".
No one knows what Biden’s platform is. He is merely running on “I’m not Trump,” and apparently that’s enough for many voters.

Voters who get their news from the MSM, we usually vote against their own interests. They’ve been propagandized.

Are you HONESTLY saying that you, a politics junkie who claims to know every fucking thing, does not know what Biden’s platform is? You have no idea how he is likely to govern?

Talk about buying a bullshit narrative.

Biden has been in elected office for what 50 years? Yes, we know who he is.
I don’t see how progressives and liberals vote for Joe, since his record clearly reveals him to be a conservative. However the MSM has inflamed these people to such an extent, that anyone is better than Trump in their minds.

I'm actually trying to get some sincere answers from those who are planning on voting for Biden.

Please, let's not turn this into a complete shit show before the first response is posted...

Okay, I will try to give you a more nuanced view.

First and foremost, Biden isn't Trump. Trump has run on a platform of divisiveness, of getting Americans to hate each other. While there has been a ting of this in the GOP since Tricky Dick and his Southern Strategy/Law and Order campaigns, the racism has never been as pronounced as it is now. We need to renounce what Trump is to save the soul of our country.

Second- While I don't think Biden is the sharpest knife in the drawer - he's not a policy wonk like Clinton or Obama - he does have the good sense to listen to the people who know what they are doing. He won't tell people to drink bleach or fish-tank cleaner to stop Covid.

Third- yes, I think the policies he'll pursue - Reforming Health Care, fixing police brutality, advocating for working people - are policies I agree with and some of which will benefit me personally.

Fourth- hate to say this, Democrats are actually better for the economy. I'm 58 years old. IN my lifetime, there have been 8 recessions, and seen of them occurred when Republicans were in charge. It's not a bug, it's a design feature. If you want to live like a Republican, vote for a Democrat.

Well, we are not insane and we know that the nation will do better than it will if we give Trump another term.

You seem to have sufficiently convinced yourself that Trump is not as bad as people think. The media has painted him to be horrible. That’s awesome. We all kinda knew you’d end up voting for him.

If you prefer corrupt crony faux capitalism, whatever.

I prefer people who know what they are doing.

I've made a point of being very critical of our current system. But the alternative you guys are offering would be a lot worse. It's failed in every country it's been tried in.

I could imagine if Commie Bernie had gotten the nomination. I could have written the commercial. On one side, Commie Bernie telling us how wonderful socialism is, on the other, pictures of people in Venezuela cooking their dogs.

Hey, do you know what you call a Venezuelan walking a dog? A Vegetarian.

Do you know what you call a Venezuelan walking two dogs? A Caterer.

if, G-d forbid, the American Taliban's candidate wins, remember they've already got away with turning the FBI into their Gestapo, SS and Secret Police. Also, the social media platforms build by Obama will declare anything Conservative as "Hate Speech" and we will be deplatformed.

His opponent.

He won't call people names but outside of that there will be little difference in actual policy.

Tbat is ridiculous. Why do people like you, who work so hard to seem reasonable and decent, say such totally stupid things?

Play devils advocate and try to honestly outline the policy differences between Trump and Biden. I’ll bet you come up with dozens.

Shit. Just so fucking lame.

Yeah, the progressives are pretty pissed off right now, looking at Biden as the Establishment candidate, and I can certainly see that.

I don't know if this has any relevance, but it seems to me that the Democrats' primary was much like the Republicans' in 2016 - The crazed anti-establishment candidate (Sanders, Trump) versus the establishment candidate (Biden, Jeb or whomever). In the GOP's case, the latter won, and in the Dems' case, the former won.

I wonder if that has any significance.

I am hoping for a Trump moment out of the (D)'s. Granted not with someone as unhinged as Trump.

I would hope that if Trump wins again that the (D)'s would come to their senses but I have little reason to believe that.
Yeah, there's no way to know how this plays out. The progressives do have a lot of strength, but Bernie was too flawed (and includes the stuff like his age and his heart) to bring it home.

Please inform me of what policies and changes Joe is offering.

No. I’ll leave you to wallow in your willful ignorance.

My question to you is a very simple one: Why are you voting for Biden?
I don't want to. He's a terrible candidate. The Democratic Party is a PC/Identity Politics-consumed shit show.

Biden has been in elected office for what 50 years? Yes, we know who he is.
I don’t see how progressives and liberals vote for Joe, since his record clearly reveals him to be a conservative. However the MSM has inflamed these people to such an extent, that anyone is better than Trump in their minds.

Well, we are not insane and we know that the nation will do better than it will if we give Trump another term.

You seem to have sufficiently convinced yourself that Trump is not as bad as people think. The media has painted him to be horrible. That’s awesome. We all kinda knew you’d end up voting for him.
No. We don’t know that. In fact I’d say there is a 50/50 chance the nation will do worse. I know that’s crazy talk to someone who gets all the information from the MSM, like you.

The moderate centrists have us in at least 5 wars. 26 trillion in debt. A an every growing wealth gap. What exactly there appeals to you?

Again, and the Socialists would have done better, how?

The reason why we are 26 Trillion in debt. We want government to do all this stuff, and we don't want to pay the taxes for it. That is on both parties, but more importantly, that's on US.

As far as wars, not sure which five you are counting, but every war that's happened in my lifetime, people were enthusiastically for when they started. I know in year 19 of Operation How Do We Get Out of This Gracefully, there's no enthusiasm for a war most of us have forgotten is still going on, but when this shit started, when the twin towers fell, everyone was all for it.

With veterans calling Trump Benedict Donald in ads it's hard to put all the blame on media. Republicans are coming out in droves badmouthing Liar in Chief and you are blaming MSM.
