THIS Is Why Energy Independence WAS So Important

The US still imports 7.5 million bpd. We have never been energy independent.

Nonsense.

The US hasn't imported much oil from OPEC since 2008.

Those are not net imports, silly.

Net imports, on a monthly basis, during Trump's final months, were negative.

Producing as much or more energy as a country needs is the widely-accepted definition of energy independence.

Just like a financially-independent person might still have some loans. We ship oil across borders in both directions where it makes sense to do so. Examples: US bases in foreign locations, near Canadian and Mexican border.

Of course.. There was no demand in 2020 because of the Covid pandemic, but we went right back to importing 7-8 million bpd.

Um, we were discussing your statement that the US has never been energy independent. Now you say, "yeah, but..."

Despite the pandemic, US oil production dramatically surged under Trump. Increased ~45% in just three years, and was still up ~25% at end of term.

I don't think it's possible to find "consumption" of crude oil, as it is petroleum products which are "consumed," but it is indisputable that we produced more under trump, more than we consumed, as we were a net exporter.

How much oil do domestic producers produce every year and how much do we use in the US?
