I fear, Americans don't understand how this is viewed by the world. Forget Canada and England, they are all on board for China First. You have an entire globe that is being told by China "those Americans don't seem to be so democratic of late".
There have been times I have called out Trumps language and even his policies that didn't make sense to me. I'm not too ignorant to see why some might have had legitimate concerns about Russia interfering in 2016. They had a lengthy and by many accounts, absurd carte blanche into his life and found nothing.
You can silence people, all this does is drive it underground and have people quietly help China and others. Hey, "everyone else is doing it, I might as well cash in too!" You think that won't be a common theme with citizens?
Do some research on the East Germans. They were silenced and oppressed. They always got the message out.
