What value would you place on a loved one? Would you be happy if a murderer could toast some bread in the oven to pay for taking one of your loved ones or would you want the death penalty for him? What value do you place on God?
The sin against God cost what? The value of God is what? The punishment has to equal the crime.
The problem is Chuck, you are consistent with your quoting of the Bible and make reason out of it. While I may disagree fundamentally with some of it, you at least are reasonable. So yes, the problem is that when I put out an argument to disprove one side's theory, you spam scripture or pithy sayings that gun down my arguments not meant for you. But whatever, do what you will.
If someone touched the one person I love, there would be no salvation for anyone. Anywhere. I would probably degenerate into a murderous ball of evil with the sole intent of killing and watching everything burn. Good thing she doesn't get out much and doesn't have enemies.
The value I place on God is that of my Father. He created me, I am of him, he shaped who I am. But I disagree with him. On some details, I disagree with the Church's teachings and disagree with what God says himself on occasion. But that is the nature of free will, no? To question what you've been taught and realize God in your own fashion as the Scripture makes sense to you? Regardless, my opinion is that God will forgive your philosophical differences as long as you still acknowledge him as your God and don't run amok murdering people. Then, like a real Father, God will let you join in on the inheritance.
Well you pretty much answered your own question and most people would want a murderer hung from the highest tree if their loved one was hurt.
God chose foolishness or preaching to save those that believe. Why?
Think about who chooses to be a Christian and whom doesn't.
I was having a discussion with Pastor C about how the Bible is so misused and why people can't come to the conclusion that God exists and why God can't make it abundantly clear to people even though the evidence is not there.
Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed;
lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Why not make it so the cults cannot twist scripture and that all can choose? I mean, why chase Adam out of the garden when Adam could have been saved right then and there?
God doesn't want people to come for the wrong reasons. Imagine the worst person who didn't want to change and he came to God not because he loved God, not because he wanted to behave, not because he wanted to repent, not because he loved good. etc. etc. etc. Imagine he only wanted to come because he knew and because he only wanted to save his own skin. It is kind of like Charles Dicken's without the boss feeling remorse. The boss first and everyone else last; He just wants to save himself. The purpose of God's curse upon the earth was so that we would die and not live in these bodies of sin. Those who don't want to change want to live in corruption and will reap corruption.
God is fair. People are judging themselves without knowing it. They are judging God except when they do that, they are judging themselves. They are judging people except when they do that, they are judging God:
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
So what kind of people would believe in God? The humble? Do we get along with the humble? Yes? Do we get along with the poor in spirit (Matthew 5)? Yes. Do we get along with those who are prideful, only think of themselves, etc? No. Who is going to reject the gospel? Those who are proud. Who are going to support a works based system? The proud. What does God hate? The pride of man.
The beauty of it is that the learning curve goes up. If you've ever had to put hardware like computer chips on a breadboard, program them and have it up and running in a day, you are doing pretty good. But for most people, the learning curve goes up. God can accomplish His goals and not be thwarted by going to a faith only system because the people we want the learning curve to go against are the prideful (Proverbs 8:13) and people who will reject the gospel because those are the people who won't change. So being invisible as God works to everyone's advantage because the learning curve works against the evil.

Thanks for seeing me as reasonable.
As far as the other stuff, I'm guilty as charged. I want to know that I've tried to give people the truth. Doctrine is for correction.
If I am giving you material from myself, I may as well quit because it isn't from God. The only way I know that I am not making mistakes and giving out false information is to have a copy of what I am giving you in front of me because I do mix things up if I don't have it in front of me. Even then I have to be very very careful.
The only way I'm giving it to you from God is if I am in the Word but if I am not then you might as well listen to someone who isn't in the word who is making it up, who is lying to you, who is confused, who isn't trying.
It is so hard today. I look back and could kick myself for not listening to Christians earlier because the Bible is hardly taught today. I wish I could remember 40 years ago what other people taught. There were some lessons then. I can't say that I wrote everything down then but I did get is far better than the nonsense that people are hearing today. I wish I was invited to a few more teachings, lectures, Bible studies.
I'm afraid that I'm not doing you justice by doing my job right. In order to be trained to do my job right, I need God's word (the Bible) and hope to hear God illuminate His word, reveal from His word or inspire from His word or other people who are hearing from His word whom give me the word of God and then I recognize it being from God. Then I have an "Ah Ha" moment. That is the only thing I have to give you other than love.
If you want a pastor who is going to teach his own ideas other than the Bible then they are out there. The average person in the pew wouldn't know but that is why you want a pastor who believes and is trained by someone who is trained and all of them have to believe or else you will get confusion and lies from them unless truth trickles down from the Bible and that is what the Bible is there for. The Bible is there because people lie.
