The Week: America's Constitution is terrible. Let's throw it out and start over

The thing about our constitution is it was written by men that were willing lose everything and die to form this country. You would have a hard time finding a group willing to give up everything nowadays.

Nope, you wouldn't . They are the men and women of our US armed forces.

Agreed!
The sad thing is the US armed forces are dying to protect the interests of the Empire and the Oligarchy. They are not dying to protect the 'freedoms' of the American people.

More war means less liberty at home...always has and always will.

War is a racket and is always about the health of the State.

I agree, but it doesn't make those troops any less brave.

No. Our Founding Fathers did an Most Excellent job at the convention with our federal Constitution and supreme law of the land. There is no Thing ambiguous about it.

They did as good a job as they could at the time. But the circumstances allowed the passage of only a deeply flawed document that took more than a dozen decades to work the most egregious mistakes out of.
No system is perfect. The Articles of Confederation were not any better.

And, there is nothing wrong with our current Constitution; usually just a reading comprehension problem.

Clearly a flaming liberal partisan wrote this so the irony is off the charts. Triggered by losing fair and square to Trump this idiot wants to set fire to our Constitution? Look you bunch of stupid shit libs if you can't beat Trump in an election holy shit your party sucks ass. Stop trying to RIG elections because you lost.

In the previous presidential election when Obama won in a landslide and Dem's took the House and a super majority in the Senate were Dem's complaining about the constitution and our election process? Hell no. But when they lose under the exact same system they squeal like a stuck pig.

With universal suffrage, the Bill of Rights applied to the States and the end of slavery....yeah, its a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

For those who say it's the left who want to change the constitution, shut up.

We all know how desperate the right is to change the Constitution. They understand their white party is shrinking so they are doing everything they can to cling to power. But I suspect electing a TV clown has overplayed their hand.

GOP repeats calls for new constitutional amendments - National Constitution Center

In fact, it's been going on for so long there are literally dozens of reports about the GOP's plan to alter, amend or even rewrite the constitution.

What do you expect from people who lament the fact the conservatives lost the civil war?

I have a little more trust in the constitution.

Trump is finding out the DOJ works for America, not Trump.

Trump is finding out how those "loyalty pledges" works.

Just because the GOP has become the lapdogs of Trump doesn't mean it will last forever.

Don't trust the GOP into rewriting the constitution. They are racist and they have been exposed as supporters of lying, pedophilia, sexual assault and hating an entire theme park of minorities.
And they want to limit rights. And they have an agenda of "make America white again".
And they misuse and lie to a base so ignorant, they believe scary black people are worse than anything the GOP could do to them. Once they have no insurance, they will know the truth.

Did you know that our federal Constitution and supreme law of the land was Intelligently Designed to be both gender and race neutral, from Inception?

Just, "right wing bigotry" and lousy reading comprehension.

Posterity simply slacked.

It wasn't in practice. And referring to slaves as '3/5ths of all other persons' doesn't make it race neutral. And with only white land owners allowed to vote at the time of its passage, it wasn't 'posterity' that rendered it far from gender and race neutral. It was the Founders themselves.

The founders were forward thinkers to be sure. But they weren't race or gender neutral. Nor was the age they lived in.

We have a Congress that can't agree on the most mundane matters
They are incapable of modifying the Constitution

It could probably be tweaked with what we have learned in the last 200 years but small states will never agree to give up the power that the current constitution gives them

Slavery was actual practice in some of the several and sovereign States of our Union. The federal government could do nothing until 1808.

Slavery was codified into the Constitution with the 3/5ths compromise. It wasn't 'posterity' that did that either.

But the founders themselves.

Why '1808'?

Article 1, Section 9. Clause 1: The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.

What does this have to do with your 'posterity' argument? Or my argument that slavery was one of the major flaws in the constitution?

No it wasn't. First, it was a compromise they HAD to make to get it approved.
SECOND, let me ask you a question.....WHAT was/is Congressional representation based on?
