The Touchy Subject of Black Confederate Soldiers

Yes, I damn ANYONE who owns other human beings to profit off their labor. See, that wasn't complicated.
You work in an office for others making profits. Do you dare talk to them like you talk here? Are you subject to being fired? When your boss orders you to do a thing, do you tell him hell no?

Income tax (or any tax) isn't slavery. You vote on the politicians who control it. you vote on the programs they support. You decide how much they get entirely on how hard you want to work.
Yes, it is slavery. You have no choice. If the Democrats triple your taxes, you have to comply.

That's kind of retarded. the thing is the Democrats and Republicans of 1860, are not the Ds and Rs of today.
Who informed you of that myth? Are the slave owners better today? Democrats constructed the myth they are today Republicans based on the civil rights laws passing. I was a democrat in 1964 and my reason to change to republican is what Carter did, not what the civil rights law did. If Democrat truly repented, they all would be Republicans and the current Democrats would have several hundred members.

Um, okay, let's look at that lame comparison.

I work in an office that makes profits, but I get a share of those profits in the form of a salary.

No, I conduct myself like a professional in the office. I don't talk about politics or religion at work because that's not what I am being paid to do.

Yes, I am subject to being fired, but I am also able to quit. So not like slavery at all, but an agreement that EITHER side can end for any reason.

If my boss has to "order" me, then I'm not very good at my job. If I'm good at my job, I'm taking care of a thing before my boss knows it needs to get done. However, if my boss asked me to do something that offended my sensibilities, I have the option to quit.

Now, in my storied career (post-military), I've quit two jobs. I had one company go completely out of business. I had one occasion when I was fired, and I've had three when I was downsized due to reorganizations or business declines. The current job will probably be the one I retire from, C'Thulhu willing.

Now, here's a good question for you: why are you in such a hurry to normalize or sanitize slavery?

Things that never happened when I was in the military or the working world

I was never whipped or beaten.
I was never raped and forced to accept that.
I've never had family members sold off for a profit.

Slavery was a horrible thing, and the fact that we based it on racism that persists to this very day makes it so much worse.

No matter how much you and Mike Has Real Issues try to sanitize it.

Essentially, today the Democrats are the progressives
They want the constitution removed and they want to author the replacement of the constitution.
There are so many examples, You for instance are a prime example.

Um, it's called having a history degree.
WHen the Democrats threw out the Southern Racists in 1964, the Republicans welcomed them with open arms.

Can you simply obtain a larger share by you telling the firm to raise your income, or do they tell you what to earn?

Sure, you keep your mouth shut, though not here, because you do not want to be fired. They have that kind of control over you.

Democrats in the South threw nobody out. I was welcomed with open arms by Republicans in 1980. And I lived in CA at the time. Democrats were so powerful they elected Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton who were from the South.

Now, here's a good question for you: why are you in such a hurry to normalize or sanitize slavery?
I am not like that. All history topics deserve debate. Such as why did the English bring slavery to what is now the USA? Was Slavery normal in Africa and is it gone today from Africa? If it was and is normal in Africa, who decided to make it not Normal? Did the English invent slavery? Did the South invent slavery? With your history degree, what are your answers?

I will haunt you with another question.

Were draftees in the Army slaves and could they quit the Army at will?
You can quit your firm. Could you tell the Army upon being angry, that you simply quit?

Now, I can't speak as to when you were in, when the military still had conscription, but it was hardly the same as slavery.

For one thing, you got paid.
For another, it was only for a limited time.
So if one is made a slave and one pays the slave puny income, and holds them for a limited time, slavery is fine with you!!!!

Why are you defending slavery?

Can you simply obtain a larger share by you telling the firm to raise your income, or do they tell you what to earn?

I have the option of asking them for more money.
I also have the option of sending out resumes and getting a better-paying job.
I also have the option of getting a lower-paying job with a shorter commute, less stress, and the ability to pursue other income-generating opportunities in my own time.

ure, you keep your mouth shut, though not here, because you do not want to be fired. They have that kind of control over you.

Um, no, it's more like what is appropriate behavior. I discuss politics here because this is a political discussion board.

Work is a workplace. I am being paid to do a certain amount of work and complete certain tasks withint a reasonable amount of time.

Democrats in the South threw nobody out. I was welcomed with open arms by Republicans in 1980. And I lived in CA at the time. Democrats were so powerful they elected Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton who were from the South.

Well, not exactly. Jimmy Carter only BARELY got elected because Jerry Ford was such a feckless knob. Bill Clinton only got elected because Ross Perot split the white vote. True, being from the South helped both of them slightly. But it wasn't because white people in the South were all for them.

My answer it 'Timmy did it, too!" doesn't work for a five year old, much less a grown-ass man in his eighties.

We had slavery.
We enshrined slavery in our constitution.
Half the country fought a civil war to maintain slavery (and, no black people didn't take up arms to keep being slaves like Mike Has Real Issues says).
And after slavery was abolished, awful white people have come up with various schemes to oppress and exploit black people until this very day.

Our behavior was inexcusable, regardless of what the rest of the world did.

Were draftees in the Army slaves and could they quit the Army at will?
You can quit your firm. Could you tell the Army upon being angry, that you simply quit?

Well, no, because I signed a contract. Now, sure, there were ways I could have gotten out of that contract, but then I would have also forfeited the benefits I joined to get in the first place (tuition, favorable loan terms, etc.) I am still reaping the benefits from what I did 35 years ago.

So if one is made a slave and one pays the slave puny income, and holds them for a limited time, slavery is fine with you!!!!

Military service isn't slavery. It's a contract.

I have the option of asking them for more money.
I also have the option of sending out resumes and getting a better-paying job.
I also have the option of getting a lower-paying job with a shorter commute, less stress, and the ability to pursue other income-generating opportunities in my own time.
I was not able to to those things in the Army. I was a slave.

And after slavery was abolished, awful white people have come up with various schemes to oppress and exploit black people until this very day.

Our behavior was inexcusable, regardless of what the rest of the world did.
And yet you decided to be in the party that did those things.
