Well, well, what a shocker — a Democrat actually telling the truth on the Senate floor. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, one of the longest-serving Democrats in Washington, accidentally ripped the lid off the left’s cynical government shutdown game plan. In what sounded like a rare moment of honesty, Durbin admitted that Chuck Schumer’s strategy during the shutdown was, quite literally, to “starve children.” His words, not mine.
Durbin was part of a small group of Democrats who finally broke ranks and sided with Republicans after 40 days of political theater that accomplished nothing but pain for American families. Eight Democrats in total decided to stop holding the government hostage and voted with the GOP to reopen it. That includes Durbin himself, along with Senators Fetterman, Kaine, Hassan, Shaheen, King, Rosen, and Cortez Masto. Apparently, reality finally caught up with them — or maybe they just realized the optics of kids going hungry while they played politics were a little too bad, even for the modern Democratic Party.
Durbin admitted that many of his Democrat colleagues were furious with him for supporting the reopening of the government. He said, “Many of my friends are unhappy. They think we should have kept our government closed indefinitely to protest the policies of the Trump administration.” Translation: Schumer and his crew were perfectly fine with punishing ordinary Americans if it meant scoring political points against President Trump. That’s not “resistance,” that’s cruelty dressed up as strategy.
