Yes, but the same people who oppose abortion, also oppose child tax benefits, universal health care, subsidized child care, family leave, and mandated maternity leave for women. All of these measures would reduce the number of abortions. This is why the "slaughter of innocents" argument is just another right wing red herring.
20 years after Roe v. Wade, the crime rate in the USA dropped by 10%, the biggest one year drop since they started keeping records. The crime rate continued to drop by 1% per year for each of the next 5 years. Since the vast majority of abortions are poor families, and the vast majority of crime is in poor neighbourhoods, the obvious conclusion was that poor families were having fewer children, and we better able to care for them, and raise them.
Last but not least, studies done on women who tried and failed to get an abortion, found that years later, none of the women were better off, either financially, or healthwise. Some were living in their cars. Many had mental health issues. None was in any shape to be a "fit parent" to the child they were forced to have, or their other children.
All of your concerns are about the "unborn". All of our concerns are about the children, the women, and what will become of all of them after the child is born. Every indication is that women are making responsible decisions for themselves and their families.
We believe that once a child is born, it has a right to a decent life, education and opportunity available in a first world country. Being able to control reproduction ensures the best possible outcome for poor families, and women whose pregnancies suffer complications.
And for society as well.
