Zone1 the RCC is not from God

be specific and link to any actual biblical versus that prohibits a priest from marrying
Here is where the rule comes from:

Luke 18:28-30 (RSV) And Peter said, “Lo, we have left our homes and followed you.” [29] And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no man who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, [30] who will not receive manifold more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

Matthew 19:27 Then Peter said in reply, “Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?” (cf. Mk 10:28)

Mark 1:29-31 And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. [30] Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. [31] And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them.

Why just pick out "wife"? If we're going to base an entire belief system on that passage, priests should also be homeless and disavow their entire families. IOW, we have turned a passage that says people will be blessed if they leave the world behind to follow Christ into something compelling an entire class of people to remain celibate. It doesn't compute.

Most priestly orders have a vow of poverty as well. It's a matter of giving up all to follow God. These founders of Protestant sects didn't want to give up these things. That's my point. They no longer wanted to live lives of self-sacrifice. It makes you question their motivation for wanting to change the rules.

They looked at the rules and realized there was no need for a mandate that all priests have to be celibate. The blessing is on those who put everything second to serving God, it is not a commandment to never marry. We need to be careful making rules out of things that are not commanded.

Priests absolutely have to be celibate while they're priests.
Which begs the question why the Catholic church demands celibacy from them when it's not commanded in Scripture.

What have Catholics ever done to you, Hobelim?

It's already been explained.
Yeah, you showed the Scripture that they springboarded off of to create the rules. I think they made a big mistake, lashing priests to celibacy. I think it's caused a lot of problems with young, male priests unable to control themselves and taking advantage of those they are supposed to serve. Even Paul said flat out to get married if you can't control yourself.

I'm having discussions with Catholics who make statements about the Catholic church being the only true church, how all other denominations are heretical, etc. If you don't want backlash, don't say dumb things like that. And I'm not that other guy, he's nuts.

No. You're not. You are a hobelim.

What you're talking about are mostly gay dudes 50 or more years ago. For the vast majority of priests, they willingly make this great sacrifice and do so to great benefit.

You're looking at this through a selfish earthly lens.

Are you saying gay men can't control themselves?

I'm looking at it through a practical lens. The church has had a really big problem with priests who are unable to control themselves, and Scripture makes it clear that it's better to get married if you can't, so why not? Hey, it's up to the church to decide, they just shouldn't act like it's commanded in Scripture.

Oh, how fun, I got a label from an internet keyboard jockey.
I can only assume your real life is a mess for you to behave as you do. I'll pray for you.

We all need prayer. What time will you do that so I can pray for you at the same time? And no, my life isn't as much of a mess as it was. I'm pulling it together as I mature spiritually.

Again, gay men were over 80% of the problem. These are guys who lied in the vows to begin with. But the vast majority of priests can and do remain celibate. For those who don't understand the importance of self-sacrifice, this is lost on them.
