The new left using Christian belief as a cudgel

The earliest versions of the Gilgamesh stories (written in Sumerian) date back to around 2100 B.C., and the standard Akkadian version was compiled around 1200 B.C.. In contrast, the Book of Genesis was compiled and written down much later, generally between the 8th and 6th centuries B.C. [1, 2, 3, 4]

In the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, the Great Flood is a pivotal tale of divine destruction and survival told to King Gilgamesh by Utnapishtim, a mortal who attained eternal life. It is widely recognized as one of the oldest recorded flood myths in human history. [1, 2, 3]

Flood myths existed all over the world. The Toltecs and Mayans had them, so did the Chinese, Indians.

So what? Tribes wandering around long before writing was invented would have found sea fossils near the top of the Himalayas, and certainly high up on MT. Ararat as well. No proof they all originated in one region, certainly not in Mesopotamia.

Marine fossils discovered at high elevations, such as on Mount Everest, provide fascinating evidence of ancient oceanic environments and the geological processes that have shaped our planet over millions of years.

Discovery of Marine Fossils

Marine fossils have been found in various high-altitude locations, including the Himalayas, the Swiss Alps, and the Andes. Notably, fossils of ancient sea creatures have been discovered on Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, which stands at 29,031 feet (8,848 meters). These fossils include remnants of ammonites, brachiopods, corals, and sponges, indicating that this region was once submerged under the Tethys Sea, a vast ocean that existed millions of years ago earthlymission.comearthlymission.com+1.

Geological Processes Involved

The presence of marine fossils at such high elevations can be attributed to the theory of plate tectonics. This theory explains that the Earth's surface is divided into large tectonic plates that float on a semi-fluid mantle. Over millions of years, these plates move, collide, and reshape the Earth's surface. The Indian subcontinent, once part of the supercontinent Gondwana, drifted northward and collided with the Eurasian Plate about 40 to 50 million years ago. This collision caused the ocean floor of the Tethys Sea to be uplifted, forming the Himalayas and bringing marine fossils to high altitudes earthlymission.comearthlymission.com+2.

Types of Fossils Found

The types of marine fossils found in the Himalayas and on Mount Everest include:

  • Ammonites: Extinct marine mollusks related to modern squid and octopuses.
  • Brachiopods: Ancient marine arthropods that thrived in shallow waters.
  • Corals and Sponges: Organisms that typically grew in warm, shallow marine environments TrendingAmericanTrendingAmerican+1.

They would have known nothing about plate tectonics and the like. Neither do you, obviously.

Recently there is a bent on the extreme left today to use peoples faith against them, as though it is somehow uneducated to have faith in God…One of the ways they do this is simply asking someone if they believe the story of Noah’s ark.

And without going into great detail, we know that the story from Genesis is a parable, in many ways symbolic of Jesus. However, some interesting discoveries on Mt. Ararat in Turkey point to it possibly being a true story…

So, what say you friends? Is Noah’s Ark a true story? Or just a parable meant to point people towards Gods salvation?

And, what do we think of people trying to use this story to mock others here?

There is no Ark its metaphor in an allegory and impossible to build. Jesus is never mentioned in the Old Testament. All the aniomlas on one small boat. They would eat each other and who would clean up the poop. Total nonesense to think its real

It's about as far fetched as how we climbed out of a mud hole.

Read Matt. 5-7

Yeah I didn't think you were capable of it. You commies want to mass murder everybody who opposes your insane nonsense, so why are quoting MAthew? You have no idea what it means, you're just parroting somebody else.

While in college I took a class titled Intro to Religion. It focused on the beliefs of followers in all the major religions and was taught by a Catholic priest. When we were studying Catholicism he explained to us the allegorical nature of the Bible. That the mistake people frequently make is to take it literally.
Lol, studying under a catholic priest. You can't take anything from that guy seriously.
